County round up

Glamorgan declares, so no outing with the bat for Saurav Ganguly.
In the Surrey-Hampshire game, Shane Warne went 21-0-89-2 in Surrey's score of 361; Bajji, after whacking a quick 25 (16 balls, four fours, one six), doing a demolition job on Hampshire with six for 28 in 14.3 (his wickets including Warne, just by way of rubbing it in).
And for Leicestershire, Dinesh Mongia (no, wasn't ignoring him -- have, in fact, been posting on him before, as well) top scores with 66 (82 balls, 13 fours) and is now doing a decent job with the ball (4-1-6-0).
A touch early for the British papers to have weighed in on the day's play -- will keep an eye on it for descriptions of how the Indians did. Meanwhile, anyone watched the games? Appreciate eyewitness insight, if any.

  • havent watched the games, but cant help noticing that irfan pathan has hardly been picking up wickets...this on what i assume are pitches friendlier to his style of bowling than indian pitches. Hope he too picks up wickets soon much like bajji has done today after a long time. ganguly has scored a hundred, bajji has taken a 5-for and mongia has been consistently doing well...irfan too has done well with the bat, if only he would replicate that in his bowling then it would be allround good news for us....wonder if the rumoured shoulder injury has anything to do with it.

  • Don't make anything about Pathan seeing the scorecard of the current Middlesex-Glamorgan game. The pitch must be tailor made for batting as 3 out of top four batsmen have scored a century.

I think Pathan will soon be among wickets.

  • true....the current match might be on a belter of a wicket...but even in the past matches he has been wicketless....not even the 1 or 2 wicket hauls other than the 3 in the first couple of matches...largely been wicketless.....thats been the concern.

Yeah am sure that he will get among wickets soon ...i only hope it is real soon!

  • Finally bajji gets some wickets. I wonder if he got any with his doosra??? I saw some guy was stumped, I can't remember his name right now ...., wonder if it was the doosra.

PS: I wonder what sensationalist headline news would rediff have for that. I also bet it wouldnt be as big a headline as when he didnt pick up any wickets and thre the ball!!!!

  • Rediff actually IS becoming a Sensationalist about its cricket reporting -- They were very good previuosly with Prem, Faisal and a few others. But lately they are reporting for the headlines....

Does anyone of u listen to the Paniz station -- when PP is missing, it is chaos... the host actually is fun to hear...

  • The Doosra in action.
The Guardian has a good article on the Turbanator's spell.

Watching from the other end was Chris Benham, making his debut at the Rose Bowl. He must have wondered at the change in a strip which the previous day had granted Warne a measly two wickets from 21 overs. However he had scrabbled his way to 41 before being deceived by the ball that has been under close inspection: Harbhajan's doosra turned away from his bat and into the hands of Ali Brown at slip.
