Or what masquerades as one -- a Harish Dugh piece on Sachin Tendulkar, in the Express; the thrust apparently being to rebut those who call for his head.
One good thing about the surgery for his tennis elbow is that the team will have a preview of playing without Sachin for an extended period; time to experiment with the number four slot; time to test out the young tykes pushing for an ODI berth; time to see what life after Sachin will be like -- and just in time, because all things considered, you'd have to say Sachin's exit from the game is just a matter of a year, maybe two tops.

  • I'm not sure his exit is as imminent - I'm sure WC 2007 is in his sights, and I would be happy to see him give up one day cricket and play more Test Matches for another couple of years after that.
I think the Indian team now is used to playing without Tendulkar - in the last couple of years, he has been forced to sit out a lot of games and we've handled it reasonably well.
Would love to see Dhawan and Venugopal Rao in the side for Sri Lanka though. We'll need an opener and one in the middle, since both Sachin and Saurav are out. Either that or play Gambhir in the ODIs too.

  • Drop sachin now, we cannot win the world cup with him in the team in 2007. Now is the time to start preparing for the world cup. Also, having losers like him in the team is not going to help India in any way.
