Joy Bangla!

Five for Harmison, six victims for the keeper, Bangla all out 104 -- this sort of ritual humiliation is supposed to develop the game in Bangladesh?

  • There have been a lot of comments comparing the progression of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka in their early stages in test cricket and how 16 years after their first test they won the World Cup.

During the BBC Test match special commentary that can be heard on the internet Jonanthan Agnew interview Sidath Wettimuny who was a memeber fo the Sri Lanka team in their first test and he made the interesting comment that the comparison to Sri Lanka is not as appropriate because the Lankans had players who were considered test material in the begining eben though they weren't a match for the established teams in terms of experience, strategy etc. I remember the Lanka team in the first few years and players like Roy Dias, Duleep Mendis were international level in a way that no Bangla palyer is at the moment.

  • I also remember that Lanka team being full of cheaters and helped by absolutely lousy, shoddy umpiring -- remember Kapil passing on a comment way back when as to him not regarding Lanka to be a quality nation till they won a match/series abroad. I believe we lost that series to Mendis, Dias, de Mel, Rathnayake, Wettimuny and other goons, because of their horrendous umpiring.

One way Bangla can hope to emulate the cheating Lankans of the 80's is to have an umpire favor them unquestionably -- that looks unlikely in today's day and age, with the kind of cameras that we have.
