Open house

The weekend looms -- and I'm gone. Out of town, that is -- and, as happened last week, not likely to be able to log on.
There's a few promising discussions happening on here, though -- the one on Chappell as coach, on county cricket as a panacea for loss of form, on the pros and cons of a revamped domestic structure...
Plus, there is this -- an open forum where hopefully you guys will throw up interesting links you might come across, or toss in topics for debate and discussion...
Go for it... will be back Monday; have a good weekend, all.

  • Hi Prem,
Some thing for your reading pleasure. Today's Sydney Morning Herald had this article on Greg Chappell.

  • Prem,
What is your take on who the captain of Indian Cricket team should be ? I for one firmly believe that Sachin will make a great captain at this stage in his career, assuming he can get his health back. He had a raw deal, in his last go as a captain, with the selectors (remember Noel David, Azhar, Mongia, ..), coaches, inexperienced players, etc., I was following your commentary on Rediff, during Pakistan series, and quite frankly YOU or anybody could have been the captain and won the series for us.

  • Prem, intresting and well balanced cricket blog from Will in UK http://www.cricket.mailliw.com/ Should be good to follow during Ashes, for action report from up close. Also, check out the layout of the site, especially the RSS feed for the comments section. Something which you have asked about earlier. Should give you a good idea for your site.

And no, I don't have personal interest involved here :-))

  • Hi all,
    A few stray thoughts,
    1) I think what sets Greg chappel apart from his peers is that he analyses the role of the mind and brain (not the same thing guys)functioning in cricket a lot better than the others in contention. That should help a talented side like India to play to its potential.
    2) India and Indians might never be happy again with an Indian coach. Why ? we dont think that we are good enough !
3)As we are working ( or atleast should be)towards the world cup it might be a good idea to have a couple of really engrossing "20-20" tournaments in our domestic structure and our international schedule. I think it will make our cricketers get there groove back and make them more competent in ODIs. Also make no mistake guys , "20-20" is the next big thing.
    4) Tests, Rahul captain and VVS vice captain.ODIs Rahul captain and Sehwag vice captain. Hell, I would have VVS vice captaining both sides if he was a better fielder in ODIs. I think he has one of the best cricketing minds at the moment.Flashback to the Aussie's tour of India a few seasons ago, VVS is captaining the India-A side , wins the toss and asks the Aussies what they want to do as its their practice match, stupid? no , I think it was one of the most confident things to do on a tour game , infact on the first day of a tour. He has impressed me every time he has captained.
    5) I hope the worst of Sachin's Injury is behind him , although I dont believe so . It has affected his game and will continue to do so , but hell, it sucks to see him struggle so. Never thought I would live to see the day.
Thats all for today, take care.

  • yup, will's site is pretty good. especialy some of the features. RSS feeds, tags for all posts, the comment updaters in the sidebar...
Also with the frequency of your posts, limiting them to 7 means one has to hunt for the rest if one is not checking in every few hours. There should be some way to contune browsing the posts (lik e a 'next page', maybe?- another thing that I see at 'Corridor...')
    cheers

  • went through some of the county scorecards. Dinesh Mongia is once again doing good in county cricket like last year. He top scored 75 runs for Leics and took 4 wickets for 12 runs.

I have tried to analyze Ganguly's performance and come up with my comments.

The link here is for Ganguly and India's performance in Test Matches with him at the helm
