Anil Kumble

Can't help an 'I told you so' moment... this is precisely why I suggested in yesterday's post that Anil Kumble is not a must pick for this game. Or this ground for that matter.
What amazes me just now is that a bowler with his experience, after being repeatedly swept off leg and middle, doesn't figure on going around the wicket to change his angle of delivery and get it on off with a tight field that side of the wicket -- this is where the gulf between Shane Warne and AK opens up, really; not in the turn the former gets, but in that he can adapt, think his way through situations and invariably come up with the right response.

  • Warne is the only bowler I have seen who uses bowling around the wicket as an attacking option. I always get the sense that he (Warne) seems more dangerous when he's bowling from around the stumps! A tribute to his control, I guess

  • Prem, big issue with kumble has always been this unidimensionality, end of day he hardly turns the bowl, doesnt have too much variety ... i think kumble shud be played in certain conditions against certain teams only ( WI, england etc). But i guess the problem of other talented spinners coming thru is always a issue for selectors

  • prem...kumble has problems up there..in the mind..same as Sri...they're not quick thinkers (maybe good backroom strategists going by ur conversations with them)...and remembering how u said earlier that Sri was so good...this is y he also wasnt great...
