Watched yet another exciting Ashes climax this morning (this series is sort of like a month-long pass to an Alfred Hitchcock film festival or something)... and have no desire to wake up at 3 in the morning to watch Zimbabwe play India at cricket (talk of the sublime and the ridiculous!)
So, will leave this open thread lying around, for such of you guys as are watching... and pick up regular blog updates from my Monday morning. You guys take care and enjoy what remains of the Sunday.

  • Come on Prem! How can you miss this match. My prediction-this match will be better than the Ashes series because two equally talented teams will be competing hard to lose against each other- you can expect all the twists before we find out who comes out on top (i.e. who manages to lose)

    By Blogger suraj, at 18:43

  • I am in complete agreement with suraj. Its gonna be a humdinger for sure.

    By Blogger sachin, at 18:54

  • I think its the match of the Titans )7th Vs 8th)...come on i am hardly able to sleep...dying to what more depths Team India can go!!!!!!!!

    By Blogger rushe111, at 19:02

  • Yeah I just heard that Indian and Zim govts have declared national holidays so people can pray for the respective teams ("Lagaan style") considering the historical significance of the contest.

    By Blogger suraj, at 19:06

  • India should loan gangu to zimbabwe. he always seems to scores against minnows. that way zimbabwe will assured of a decent score.

    By Blogger AA, at 19:23

  • aa,

Didn't you hear? India tried but Nehra and Pathan didn't accept Zim's request not to bowl short-pitched deliveries so Zim refused to accept Gangu- hot off the press.

    By Blogger suraj, at 19:33

  • hell
JP Yadav wouldnt agree to the request of not bowling short pitched!!!!

    By Blogger KB, at 19:52

  • Anyway on a serious note I hope RP Singh plays in the match- atleast it'll be trying of a new talent.

Another trial could be to bring Murali Kartik instead of Harbhajan so we explore our spinner options.

As for Raina, hopefully he doesn't replace Venugopal but plays along with him. The idea is that we should experiment but the expectation is still a victory considering the opposition.

If we fail against Zim then let's just sing "O paalanhaare, nirgun aur nyaare,
Tumre bin hamra kaunon naahin" instead of selection and strategy

    By Blogger suraj, at 20:10

  • Hey, you guys are such fair weather fans. I've been following this blog from the India-NZ thread. The NZ match was just one game. And- just like NZ wiggled out of 36/5. India almost wiggled out of 44/8. Here is a prediction, a comfortable win against Zimbabwe tonight. Followed by kicking NZ's tail in the next game. By the time the final comes about- India will have a decent idea of what its combination would be and NZ would be at the receiving end of a thrashing. India has lost a few games against SL recently- but not by that much. India is coming off a long off season. SL was just finishing up from a test series. And yet an experimental Indian side gave SL all that it could handle at home. India is not that far off from being successful again. Honsla rakho!!

    By Blogger Vijay, at 23:00

  • Vijay- Amen!!

May all your predictions come true and may we win- even in the finals.

    By Blogger suraj, at 23:18

  • Vijay,
Are you the guy who landed from Pluto recently? I read about you....
Here's how things work here. There's a guy called Jaggu dada whose family owns the cricket affairs in India. He and his cronies are honourary members who spend crores of rupees every year holding meetings in Mauritius and sending out gifts for Eid, Holi and Christmas (India is a secular country).
Another guy called SG or simply dada runs the actual affairs on the field. Voluptuous actresses, short pitched bowling, fast bowling, bowling outside the off stump, fielding and running between the wickets are some of his few weaknesses. He has no strengths of his own amd continues in power from the support of a few other non-performers in the Indian team.
The aim of this team is to increase their performance based ratings, brought out by the ICC. They started at 3, increased it to 4 and now are at an all time high of 7. Their aim is to reach 10 at the end of the year. The match against NZ was actually not an aberration of any kind but the result of a perfectly executed plan.
We Indians are glad that Plutonians like you also think like us and are waiting for the team to turn the corner; the difference being, we have already been waiting for the past 2 years.

By the way, when you go back to Pluto, please feel free to take SG with you. We have a tradition of being great hosts and this is the best we can do.

  • This Ashes series has really been something. The Oval shall be amongst the most anticipated of test matches.

By Blogger Rishi Gajria, at 00:34

  • Toney
All along, I have been following your comments and did find a lot of sense in them. But, yr latest post smacks of outright contempt and is gross. Agreed India has not done well but to target one individual...well..not very mature. Sorry... if this hurts.

    By Blogger Ravi1010, at 00:34

  • Vijay,

    Great Post!!!

By Blogger Rishi Gajria, at 00:35

  • Hi All,

I am looking forward to this contest. More in perspective of India displaying a gem of batting display, Yuvi scoring few runs and then giving a mouthful of nusense to someone in dressing room or commmentry box. India winning the match, SG saying big things about the boys, next day papers displaying bravo pics of these guys. The cycle repeats.

    By Blogger Medium_Fast_LegSpin, at 00:44

  • all right guys
im completely confused. on one hand i want to have honsla as someone suggested on the other it looks so much easier to give up on this shitter of a team. prem,i dont blame you for not wanting to wake up. but i really think we might be evenly matched in this contest. givent hat we have at times had problems beating zim albeit with their full team rather than the bunch of clowns they now field. the only problem is our players seems to drop their game a few notches when playing oppositions like zimbabwe instead of raising it. im still going to stand by my ealier prediction that we will decimate zimbabwe, then be on cloud 9 for a while till nz take the hawa out of us!
    see u game time

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 00:55

  • ravi,
i think toney's comments are quite justified. i have also been following his posts for a while and they usally arent as direct as this one. i agree with him in that dada has become a burden to the team of late. maybe giving up this power hunger might help him save his batting and thus his place inthe side. as of now he is useless in both depts. i agree that he has done great things in the past but so had people like taylor and waugh for aus. the ozzie selectors dint let them stay till they had no teeth left. lets strip SG of the captaincy now itself and allow him to concentrate on his batting so we can use him at the WC. but see this wont happen because SG comes from bengal and the prez of the stae cricket board happens to be jaggu. come one thats as obvious as it gets.

  • Worma,vshan and others
There was this discussion going on about the test match ranking for india (no 3) and worma was the staunch supporter of India's position here.

India for the last one year has not won any test series of note. Drawn against a pathetic paki side with no world class bowler.Lost against aussies convincingly.Won against SA (but please that was not at all a team which toured here) and ban.

Even the wins india posted in test series (2003) before that were not that great. It was just good and good too because it was coming from India - a team which has never ever fared well ....

We drawed a series in Australia - we always forget this .. we think we actually won a series in Australia and an australia which does not have msgrath and warne (surely better than macgill). Why i am so sceptic about the australian draw is the same Indian team were pathetic in home once mcgrath returned...

Even pak drew a series in WI.
DO we expect us to win a series in West Indies or south Africa or newzealand????? Leave England and Australia

ICC says we are no3 because we are able to win at home .... it does not refelct well overall

I bet a southafrica or a pakisthan will win overseas consistenly than India even with all these superstars.
There is a stiff competition for no4, 5 and 6 slots in test matches and India culd be anywhere here

    By Blogger rajesh, at 01:01

  • rajesh
i disagree with you here. our test ranking is justified. i have never understood the logic behind saying that we are well placed in the tables becuause we are good at home. what on earth is wrong with being strong at home?? given that we drew against pak but th epoint is that on the whole we are a decent side playing in india. yet another thing i disagree with you is that pak had a sub standard bowling attack. do u call shoaib , sami sub standard? beating pak in pak was an achievement and that stands.similarly you can say that the aussies are number one because all they have done is play against useless attacks, a point that has been proved in the ashes which has really been the first time they have faced a quality pace attack. i mean come on. the rankings are justified given the situations of the day. can u name one more side that has drwn a series in aus in recent times? and as far as pak beating the windies tis not a hige achievement as per your own standards as the windies attack is as lame as a three legegd horse.
i understand we are all fans of the indian team and as fans we have a right to be critical. my only point is lets be fair in our criticism.

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 01:13

  • Ashes
i feel that one point everybody seem to miss is teh lack of aggression from Aussies in batting

Everybody wants aussies to show respect to england bowlers. But I don't know why?? Aus has demoralised every opponent by bullying them for the past n years... It has not worked with england - i agree on 1 or 2 tests but the way aussies are defending,it seems they will get out and they won;t score anything more than 400 even if they bat to their potential ...

so Why not attack ... Atleast why can't hayden(mediocore) attack .. He anyway falls in 20's. give those guys a whack - the smae way gilly and katich did in the first hour of 3rd day. Just do this for a session. There might be a chance that England will be demoralised.
martyn has not at all contributed .... (ya he has been unlucky). Why can;t they send gilly at no 4...
try something man.. i don;t want aussies to be dictated by this england line up ...
That does not go well ...

Everybody says flintoff bowled well ... (ya he was too gud and is teh no1 bowler of england) but did u see how many loose balls he bowled and not being punished .... (short pitch balls ... lot)
Did u see how warne and lee played them ... i want this aussies to go after those eng bowlers. Don't gives giles (he is a gud but not grt for thsi aussie team) respect yaar please ...

Somebosyplease tell this word "attack" to ponting. I really wish to see how england replies for this

Anyway a wonderful ashes series where england has outplayed australia .

    By Blogger rajesh, at 01:19

  • kslice,
    Some clarifications
    1. I agree that india is a decent side at home. But we were too great at home before ... wht do u say ????
    2. I said our wins against pakisthan was good ... draw against australia was gud..
    But not great???
To me australia was without mcgrath and warne and drawing against them was gud not great.
    3. newzealand drew a series in australia
    4. Tell from ur heart - Did not we get absolute batting beauties in australia.. Please don't say that we should not consider this ... If we would have got a perth wicket we would be finished. I am also a great great fan of Rahul dravid, But somehow i have not seen him score runs comfortably against a 4 man great attack ... and that is aussies in india.(to me even srt comes behind rahul .. and rahul is teh no1 player in world. so i hope u understand my genuine outburst)
    5. pak beating wi is not a achievement really, but for me an indian it is an achievement because india is not able to win overseas... and i bet india will loose against this windian side also in west indies... (If i am proved worng, i will be happy)

Again, do u really think india winning 2 test series continuously overseas ....
Please don't say about teh paki team we beat - that was substandard to me. May be u can disagree. We should have won 3 -0 over there.I am happy because india beat pk in pak - a rare achievemnet...

By the way i am telling all this considering india at No 3. If u say india is not no 3 then no issues.
i also said that there are lot of teams competing for no4,5 and 6 and india mightbe one among them

    By Blogger rajesh, at 01:30

  • Wonderful Ashes so far. However i have a feeling that this series is the last one in which the current australians will dominate the way they have been doing.Something like 1992-93,Australia West indies series after which the West indies became mortal by the day.I have a post at nearlyman.blogspot.com about this.

By Blogger Nearly Man, at 01:34

  • Rajesh,
Going by yr logic, Eng does not deserve No 2 position bcos they played a sub standard Windies team and a NZ team that is not known for winning many games abroad. If India wins, they are playing substandard sides but if they lose,it is the end of the world for the players. Why are we so intent on pulling our team down?? And there is only one culprit in all this...SG..Right guys?? Keep it going.Like I said in one of my earlier posts..We will have to wait to see who ends up with mud in their face

    By Blogger Ravi1010, at 01:38

  • rajesh
i still beg to disagree with you. was it our fault that they dint have their front luine bowlers? was it our fault that they had batting beauties, which incidentally that gabba will never qualify as? by the same token we would have fared far better had they had turning tracks. come on dude you cant blame the india team for the aussies being ill prepared!!
i do agree with you in that i feel our side was far better at home in the past than we are now. we used to have an unbeaten home record for a while till SA changed that.
oh werll i guess we agree to disagree then

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 01:41

  • ravi i agree with you as my earlier posts would suggest. the one thing i disagree with is that people here pull down the team. dude all of us here our fans. fans arent supposed to blindly support their team. and if they are its a facade. interbally a fan will be upset and critical of his/her team and all this suggest is that they want their team to do well. i sincerely believe that we still need an n form ganguly. my suggestion as before is to take away his captaincy and let him be a pure batsmen. its not like any new capt wont take suggestions from him. its not like he would be ostracized within the team. if sachin, dravisd can play under him and support him why cant it be the other weay around for a wghile. lets have a new captain in plave now rather that 2 years from now right before the wc

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 01:45

  • Ravi,
    u are completey wrong ....
I just said of our test team...
England won overseas also (SA and wi)....and thrashed nz 3-0 in home and beating australia .......
A very good No 2 and potential No 1 (Might take time ... let us see)

i have never said anything abt our odi team as it is crap now ... We will coem to taht later
Our test team is ok ... and i also said we can compete for no 4,5,6.
I just said we cannot be no 3 by just drawing or winnig at home ...
We have the potential to improve our march ... But please win something overseas ... pls
I never said anything about saurav in my post (Did I ....??)
Are u a big fan of SG ?? ravi
u tell me where i am wrong or pessimistic???

    By Blogger rajesh, at 01:46

  • Kslice..Beg to differ. Comments on team performance and personal life are two different things. I take exception to stuff like 'Voluptuous actresses' which is demeaning to any individual. Would you like it if someone in your place links your performance to your personal likes/dislikes.in our eagerness to get our points across, we tend to cross the lines of decency. That is what hurts.
We are entitled to our opinions abt people but when it transgresses into personal and below the belt targetting, the line needs to be drawn clearly.I am sure there are people on this blog who draw this voluntary line

    By Blogger Ravi1010, at 01:48

  • rajesh
obviously drawing matches or winning at home isnt being held against us and why should it? personally i dont give a shit if we lose or draw everything abroad and continue being dominant at home. if thats what will help us retain or improve our test ranking so be it. i di\ont understand the logic behind winning everywhere. i agree that will definitely improve our ranking but it is not absolutely necessary. i also agree that i woul dlove to see that happen. as my earlier post suggested and ravi nailed again, why hate our team for beating a substandard opposition on pitches that suited us? why on earth should that be our fault?

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 01:51

  • kslice,
i agreed that our draw with aus was a gud achievemnet . didn't i??. I just said that it was not great ...
I am not complaining abt pitches... i said that also will come into account to determne the greatness of the victory ... To me , a headingley Dravid century in the first innings is too gud compared to his 220 at adealide ...
One thing i disagree with u is ur thinking that i am pulling our own team down ... Absolutely No... Why will I do that ... Is is my team...

    By Blogger rajesh, at 01:52

  • ravi i completely agree with you on that. what i understood or rather misunderstood was that you were upset with his attack on SG. the rest of what he wrote i can understand that there needs to be a line drawn. i couldnt care less about what SG does in his free time as long as he does what he is supposed to on the field. sadly he doesnt seem to be doing that.

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 01:53

  • Rajesh,

Eng is winning at home and against an attack that does not have McGrath. And they won against WI in WI against a teethless attack. NZ -again at home. SA the only exception.(Link it to the exception of India winning in Pak,if u like)If it is okay for Eng than it is definitely good for India

    By Blogger Ravi1010, at 01:55

  • Ravi,
I agree with u that teh guy who criticized ganguly on personal grounds was wrong ...
But on the same token ... How can u think that everybody is criticising saurav ... Just show me one post where i have criticised saurav where he should not be ....
to me, u have just accustomed to seeing everything anti -ganguly and i really say that is not the case with everybody ...

    By Blogger rajesh, at 01:55

  • well in that case rajesh we are on the same page. i did not say that you ar epulling the tream down. infact, to the contrary i say that it is your right as a fan to bitch and moan about our team. i do it and it woul dbe hypocritical of me to ask you not to. all i want to say is you cant take away from our achievemnts by saying they were acquired in easy conditions. that is unfair. using your logic one can say that englands current run of form is not great because they are playing a weakened ozzie attack that lacks glenn"i land it on a dime" mc grtah. ro you can say that yesterdays victoy wa snot great because england had conditions tailor made for them. dont both teams use the same wicket? i completely hate the notion that one side is favored by conditions. if a team is really that good they should and do adjust as we did in australia. at the gabba(incidentally one ofthe worlds fastest and bounciest tracks) we dint do badly now did we?

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 01:58

  • Ravi,
I agreed that india was too gud at home before. Now even in India we only draw series..
England won around 70% of their test matches.DO u rellay compare england and India Test teams for teh last one year. come on man...I really hope u joked or responded in anger ...

England are on the up ........
    India are going down.......
so it is illogical to compare india and england ...
England will anyway be far far better.

    By Blogger rajesh, at 01:58

  • rajesh
when was the lasttime england won a series in india? lets see as worma and i have been discussing eng will be harrowed when they come down to india i march.

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 02:00

  • kslice,
fine.. How to put it ...
see india drawing in Australia is good ... I agree completely
But do u really feeel it is great ....
    1. Atleast ind should have won the series
    2. 2 MAin bowlers missing(Fine - india cannot do much here - Just a point.taht is it)
    3. Pitches were batting beauty ...
Aussie players(Lee and someone i forgot) were also saying that.
u say about gabba right ... usually gabba will be fast i agree ,but the pitch we had was not that fast .. Hope u agree here. It was fast compared to other 3 centers. But even in gabba, rain took away some of the game.

I am putting all these points just to differentiate gud and great .... Nothing more.
To me as an indian fan, i will always say We indians dominated the test series,But to an impartial observer tat is may be 70% true

    By Blogger rajesh, at 02:04

  • kslice,
england drew the series in india i agree... But won in pak and sl ...

We knwo our overseas record right ... That is incomparable to any cricket playing nation...
I hope u agree here that Even slanka has some gud victories against pak and nz

    By Blogger rajesh, at 02:05

  • Rajesh,
I did not mention that everyone is criticizing Saurav. Rather, whenever there is criticism(and there is lots of that of late, for obvious reasons), the target invariably is SG. Just take the example of the match against NZ. Did not the entire team fail? But, if one were to summarize the blog contents,a majority is against SG. What abt the consistent below avg performance of Sehwag and the one match wonder Dhoni. Why are they not being targetted?? We are within our rights to criticize and condemn a non performing team. But,linking SG and Dalmiya to everything that is wrong in Indian Cricket is a bit too far fetched

    By Blogger Ravi1010, at 02:06

  • see rajesh
my point is that how can u determine what is great when your definition of greatness seems to be a win that is achieved under extreme circumstances with everything piled up agaisnt you. in that case all the west indies wins of the 80's were just good not great becauase they alwats won in conditions that favored them. similarly even the aussies of the 90;s and the first half of this decade arent great as per your parameters. they have never won a match where they actually had to come from behind. i think the greatness of these dominating teams is in that they never fall behind to begin with.

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 02:09

  • kslice,
On ashes - Have u read my previous post here on why cannot the aussies attack ???
I have not seen guys discussing on this phenomenon "Aussies Attacking English bowlers"
I stringly feel for that option. Wht do u say????

    By Blogger rajesh, at 02:10

  • ravi its pretty obvious why SG is the capt of indiait starts with a d and ands with an a and has almiy in the nmiddle. look i understand that he alone was not responsible for the loss and that MSD has been a one hit wonder and that his keeping is more chest keeping than gloves. i also agree that sehwag hasnt been performing of late. but SG has been a consistent non performer for a while. it reminds me of azhar when we were in SA at some point in time. he was so pathetic that when he finally did make some runs( 40 to be precise
) everyone heaved a sigh of relief. similarly with SG he makes one 50(in 110 balls) and everyone says he is back to form. come on lets be realistinc. even mark taylor sat out at one point when he realsied that he was a burden for the team

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 02:13

  • kslice,
i never said u need to come from behind. IF that come from behind happens once in 20 to 30 test matches - great. But the other 29 test matches u need to dominate ...

I said - we need to win against an opposition which have full strength and who are on a up...
say india visiting England and beating the current England or even drawing england 2-2 in a 4 match series.

    By Blogger rajesh, at 02:13

  • i agree. aussie atatck is needed. but as was pointed out yesterday the aussies average 254 for their first innings throughout the series. the poms average 370 odd. the average run rate for te aussies has been 3.9. what more attack can you expect. i think what they need is a sustained stay at the crease and a basic of building parnerships

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 02:15

  • ravi,
what do u say of saurav ....
    do u really think
    1. saurav can be in teh playing eleven
    2. saurav being a captain

I am of teh firm belief that saurav's captaincy is over ... Now rahul needs to do taht as he is more tactical than saurav..
Lot of people will disagree with me on the following
    1. I want saurav in the playing eleven in ODI's .
    2. To me saurav was never a great captain. He was a good motivator of men and passionate abt cricket. he was gud at that time and we should appreciate it and move on ...

    By Blogger rajesh, at 02:17

  • Guys,
Spare a thought for the team. They land less than 24 hours before a match, so what do you expect ?? I am surprised the match came as close as it did.
Now they are late for Harare again. Club tourneys must be planned better
    An example of poor plsnning

    By Blogger Amit, at 02:20

  • kslice,
    average run rate = 3.9
It came because of loworder blitz(shane, brett). If we have someway of calculating the top order,it will be gud ...

I am not sure at statistics, but still i feel teh strike rate will be something like this
    Hayden,Martyn,katich - below 50%
    Langer and ponting,clarke - 50 -60%
    Gilchrist - 70 -80%

I would love it be around 70% for 4 batters and remaining 60% and gilly to just attack

    nobody counter attacked flintoff
flintoff is gud very gud, But he gives loose balls (commentrators say opposite ,but still just see)

    By Blogger rajesh, at 02:21

  • i agree with you rajesh in that he is needed in the eleven
i disagree with the he was never a good captain part. captaincy involves a lot more than man motivation and passion. it involves a brain for field placing, timing changes etc. lets not take away from SG's achievemtns either. my grouse is that he cant be kepty just based on his past record. we have seen that he sucks as a batsmen of late. lets give him the space to figure that out by removing the burden of captaincy. as i said earlier its not like dravid wont heed his advice

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 02:22

  • I think on the strength of two good batsmen(Sehwag and Dravid)and two excellent bowlers(Kumble and Harbhajan),India will remain a competitive side in Test Matches. And so will England. And Australia will also remain in top three for sometime to come. For a longer comparison with the end of Australian and West Indies hegimonies, please see my post at www.nearlyman.blogspot.com

By Blogger Nearly Man, at 02:22

  • saurav being tactical - he is not too gud in that..
I am not saying rahul is teh best captain in teh world, but comparitively he seems to be gud

I am for an attacking captain and i loved the way rahul captained even though we lost ...
His field placings were too gud

Saurav is not on the smae boat as Rahul

    By Blogger rajesh, at 02:29

  • nearlyman,
Bowlers of India - Kumble is a excellent bowler now because he bowled well on 2 tours - aus and Pak.
Harbajan - i am very sorry he is not a great bowler.Period.he is gud at home ... he needs to prove himself abroad ... Even in ODi's his strike rate is not gud.

I am a great fan of Rahul's batting. Ya he is my No 1.

    By Blogger rajesh, at 02:32

  • Well I would say that we should not be so harsh on the Indian team. After all Bond is a quality bowler..remember he almost blew away the aussies in their world cup match. I think they need to adopt a plan to face quality bowlers...just play them out without taking risks and then make merry against the weaker ones. I think the rest of the Kiwi attack is pretty ordinary. The Indians committed the same mistake against Sri Lanka in the finals because they did not play out Vaas and Muralitharan.

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 02:59

  • I think the Indians need to revisit their batting order. The way I would do it is
Sehwag and JP yadav to open
    Dhoni or Kaif to follow
    Dravid followed by Yuvraj Singh
    Ganguly followed by Irfan Pathan
    Harbhajan, Agarkar and then Nehra.

Ganguly should come much lower so that he wont have to face the quicks and can smack the spinners for a few before getting out. Even if Sehwag gets out Kaif and JP yadav can try and consolidate through singles and then let Dravid and Yuvraj take over.

Now if only it were that simple..

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 03:10

  • Hey..Sehwag is not playing!!!

    By Blogger N, at 03:26

  • Any of you guys watching the match on Sgstream.com? Are you getting video?

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 03:34

  • normal service resumed - 2/1.
    Venugopal rao out for duck.

    By Blogger Piyush, at 03:35

  • One down...Rao edges behind to Taibu.

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 03:38

  • who's in?..Dravid or Dhoni?

    By Blogger N, at 03:39

  • Mohd. Kaif is in

    By Blogger Raju, at 03:40

  • So tell me guys,

do the new rules allow us to supersub raina for venugopal rao now given that he is out?????

    By Blogger gaurav, at 03:41

  • Not a bad choice. Hope he makes use of this chance

    By Blogger N, at 03:41

  • Gaurav, NO.. You cant substitute an already-dismissed batsman..

    By Blogger Raju, at 03:42

  • If Venu is replaced by Raina he cant bat...because Venu is already done with his innings

    By Blogger N, at 03:42

  • Watching our guys bat, Streak has suddenly become a McGrath and Mahwire a Ntini

    By Blogger Raju, at 03:43

  • Good to see Kaif come one down.
At least they agreed with me on that one

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 03:44

  • you can sub anyone but he can only perform duties that have not already been performed by the substituted player

    By Blogger Jiet, at 03:44

  • Ganguly off the mark, for a change :-)

    By Blogger N, at 03:45

  • Yeah guys.. To correct my earlier statement, I second Jiet.. even if Raina replaces Rao, he can only field and bowl

    By Blogger Raju, at 03:46

  • 6/1 in 3 overs..

    By Blogger Raju, at 03:46

  • Indians making the Zim attack look lethal as always. Only a matter of time before Ganguly plays on or Kaif gets caught in the slips. very tentative start.

    By Blogger Piyush, at 03:47

  • Ganguly facing Mahwire...only two slips.

    By Blogger Jiet, at 03:47

  • Okay makes sense, but this also means India can no longer use the super sub. I don't know what Ganguly was thinking when he got raina as supersub instead of rudra pratap singh

    By Blogger gaurav, at 03:48

  • jiet u watching ? is the ball moving off the seam too much ? looks like Stream atleast is making it move ?

    By Blogger worma, at 03:48

  • garuav, he was thinking he would bowl first therefore had a batsmen supersub. if u are intending to bowl first then u should have a batting supersub, and enough bowlers in the side.

    By Blogger worma, at 03:50

  • Yeh worma, streak is moving the ball prodigiously, he infact moved it both ways!

    By Blogger gaurav, at 03:50

  • Salaam Namaste .... hi pals.. Good to be at a place whr I can do the shabaashi / gaali part with folks around

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 03:50

  • Yeah worma....Streak is moving the ball both ways.

Was hoping Sehwag would provide some entertainment....alas!

    By Blogger Jiet, at 03:50

  • Well guys - our famed batting line up is making Zimbabwe look like a great pace bowling attack.

    By Blogger vshan, at 03:51

  • do you guys know of any website where i could watch the game for free?

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 03:51

  • Battingg first u may not need Raina at all.... The Opti - Team thinktank believs in their batting EVEN NOW

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 03:51

  • For better or for worse Kaif taking Streak for now.

    By Blogger Jiet, at 03:52

  • Interesting to see the strike rate of the Indian batsmen. And against a side that gave 397 runs in 44 overs. I am beginning to sound cynical but does anyone expect anything better from an Indian cricket fan?

    By Blogger vshan, at 03:53

  • Gaurav, the super-sub advantage could be nullified by the toss.. Since we have lost the toss today, we better play sensibly and make sure that we dont lose too many batsmen before 40th over in order to bring Raina for a bowler.

    By Blogger Raju, at 03:53

  • i think its good sehwag is rested, his runs against Zim would not be a help him come out of lean patch (as it is, that guy's big runs come in the middle of any lean patches) and again good to get the new guys time in the middle. If only we had got to bowl first, then we could have given a longer run to Raina also.

    By Blogger worma, at 03:53

  • no ruchi, but someone posted a link yesterday about free commentary

btw nice mehendi collection on your profile

    By Blogger gaurav, at 03:53

  • GP,
Thats ridiculous.... Why wud u want to bring Raina in place of a bowler ... after 40th over... Won't retaining a bowler make sense more?

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 03:55

  • Ruchi, no.. No free site yet.. but if u are willing to pay about 7 dollars a month, you can get it from sportingstreams.com

    By Blogger Raju, at 03:55

  • worma...agreed. In fact I don't see India beating NZ without Sehwag firing.

    By Blogger Jiet, at 03:55

  • Yeda, what choice do you have if we are struggling at 150/8 in 40th over? A batsman to nudge around and be there till the 50th over is better than being bowling out with quite a few overs still remaining, right?

    By Blogger Raju, at 03:57

  • raina may come on for a bowler that has been bowled out

    By Blogger Jiet, at 03:57

  • guys dont worry. its still early days. im sure GC wasnt really expecting much from rao. what i dont understand is how long is this lab work(to be read as consyant shuffling of the batting order) going to stop?? even a faltu team playing with a tenis ball has a fixed batting line up

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 03:58

  • Kaif is slogging like a tail ender at the moment.... he got out in a similar fashion last match

    By Blogger gaurav, at 03:58

  • something i fail to understand is the reason dinesh mongia is shunned from the indian team. I also have a question for you avid cricket fans, has the BCCI increased pay for the domestic players?

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 03:58

  • "Streak to Kaif, no run, and again, another probing delivery outside the off stump, draws Kaif into the drive and beats up all ends up, Kaif struggling here to play the swinging delivery"

So these guys can play neither pace nor swing. They cannot play good off spin too (remember Murali?).

So that leaves them with only leg spin and the only person performing this art is Shane Warne.

That sums up why we tend to play better against the Aussies than other teams. :-)

    By Blogger vshan, at 03:58

  • well jiet, its a funny game. And you know, winning just ONE game is quite simple for this India side. Anyone out of top 5-6 can have a party day, and lo...we have a victory. But I understand what you are saying. And I think Sehwag getting into right frame of mind is important for us from test matches point of view also.

so...this pitch looks much more bowler friendly. Interesting. And Fleming already started his 'mind games' :-) How i wish we were playing this test series against his side instead of Zim ;-)

    By Blogger worma, at 03:58

  • ah - finally! The run rate inches up to 3 an over. I hope the batsmen to follow can keep the tempo up.

    By Blogger vshan, at 03:59

  • Ruchi, yeah.. they have increased indeed... Dinesh Mongia surely deserves a place in the team.. (prolly he would replace Rao after this series)..

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:00

  • "Mahwire to Ganguly, FOUR, this one is too short and Ganguly gets
enough time to rock back and pulls it away in front of square for
the first boundary of the innings"

    Cricinfo commentary.
Ha! Ganguly! Am i seeing things or is the commentator smoking funny things?

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 04:00

  • worma
i agree with the us playing nz instead of zim. that way we would atleast know we were going to lose. now im sitting here biting what little nails i have left and we are playing a club side err zimbabwe side.

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 04:00

  • GP,
If V r at 140/8 ... Getting Raina at tht stage wud get us 155... No more ( Every day is not Irfan-JP kinda partnership day)... At that juncture... U also want to loose out one of ur bowlers as well !! Makes sense if v don't want to give a fight later ( Or yeah.. I wud agree to tht move ..if u r planning to get Agarakar substituted...)))

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:01

  • dark nights

Mahwire must be bowling like JP Yadav to be hit in front of square by Ganguly. I dont have to see the video to deduce this. :-)

    By Blogger vshan, at 04:01

  • alas, zimbabwe having pity on us and giving away some overthrows.....

whats going on, we don't seem to be able to spin, bat or field....

on good pitches we cannot bowl swing/pace and on placid tracks we put up a good bowling performance.....

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:02

  • Kaif seems to be really struggling...and Gangs seem to be going ok...guys watching is that true?

    By Blogger N, at 04:02

  • k-slice...I was talking of test matches. Anyway if you've 'given up' on this Indian side, then lets watch the game ;-). Not much to say, is there ?

    By Blogger worma, at 04:03

  • "Streak to Ganguly, FOUR, outside the off stump and Ganguly steers
it away behind point, Utseya picks it up and has a go at the
stumps, misses by a long way and the ball races away to the
    midwicket fence"

LOL! I am sure Dalmiya has told the Zims that they will get Indian support at the ICC ifthey allow Ganguly to score. And the only way to do that is as mentioned above.

    By Blogger vshan, at 04:03

  • ok finally a lose ball and some sort of shot from kaif

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:03

  • Yeda, well... I assumed that Raina as a batsman would be talented enough to bat till the 50th over.. He is supposedly a proper batsman, remember.. thats why.. This thing has happened in the past in a Aus-Eng Natwest match..

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:04

  • Streak causing problems and Mahwire providing the solutions.

    By Blogger Jiet, at 04:04

  • thats very funny vshan, you are right.... thats the only way to allow Ganguly to score

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:04

  • any audio coverage links? :( i wish i wasn't so broke, hey guys do you want to set up a yahoo chat room so we could chat better?

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 04:05

  • worma
i havent given up. and i was talking about the tests too. if you read my earlier posts im far from giving up. hopefully the team will decide that today is the day and now is the time(their world cup mantra) and play like they did in the world cup.

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 04:05

  • GP
Would buy ur point frd... but for the fact that ... 140/8 spells tht 7 of our 'Proper' bats r already sipping coffee ...
Anyways... lets hope v dont get to tht point ..at least not iin this match

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:06

  • Ruchi, visit sify.com and there is a link for LIVE audio report..

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:07

  • ruchi, reading and posting over here is more interesting than listening or watching the telecast :) The current India run rate is less than the test run rate in the ashes....

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:07

  • Yeda, righto.. Let us hope so.. :-)

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:08

  • k-slice, I'm really happy to hear that you've still some faith in our team. I got that impression from your statement that we should play Nz (in tests) so atleast we are sure of defeat. My mistake, if that was wrong. And yeah lets hope they do get geed up for this tour, and that leads to a successful season. After all, even against Zim, if we get good victories, that would help 'building up' the momentum going into the season. So that way, I think its good we are starting our test campaign from a lower team rather than, eg. a tour to Pak or some such.

    By Blogger worma, at 04:10

  • now i understand why lagaan didn't get an oscar..the jury probably got interested in a cricket game (hats off to gowariker for that), and saw indian playing at snail's pace..got flustered and gave the oscar to some other film

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 04:10

  • i have a good feeling that ganguly will do well today. all he needs is a little luck. given that he is a confidence player if he does well today that should bode well for the rest of the gamnes. also dravid will be keen to perform today given his abyssmal dismissal two days ago

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 04:10

  • Let us know if someone has opened up yahoo chat room, its much more realtime there

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:11

  • Worma n other folks,
What do u think abt Rao? I hvae nvr seen him playing ... Just wondering what his style actually is?

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:11

  • slice ganguly will most probably play well, thats what he does.... score a century against kenya/zimbabwe and then secure his place for next 20 one dayers

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:12

  • And if you look at Nz, even they struggled when they first came on this tour. Their batting in the first test was very bad, and it was only because of Vettori that they survived (and in tests you get a chance to survive out of a bad start, in ODIs you dont, so they might even have lost to Zim that day !). And look at them now, how confidently they are beating Zim, and giving us a fight. So I hope the same happens with us, and by the time we play our first test, we are into the right mindset.

    By Blogger worma, at 04:12

  • worma
i am not a fair weather fan. but at the same time i think any fan in the true sense will feel frustration and unleash criticism at some stage or the other. specially with a team as talented as ours. i can understand if our team was like zim and had no ttlaent. but having it and not applying it seems to be a much bigger sin. oh well i hope we can beat them today and then carry it on. also as i said a few days ago i still predict we will decimate zim today.

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 04:13

  • Greg Chappell seems to be favouring Y Venugopal Rao. I understand the fact that he is a technically correct batsman. But he hardly looks one day stuff. So why is he being nurtured? As a replacement for Ganguly in the Test middle order ?

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 04:13

  • Rao seems to have no style.. looks like one of those umpteen number of players who disappeared after two series.. (remember Sujith Somasundar?)

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:13

  • yeda, haven't seen him either. Saw Raina a bit in SL, when he came one down and scored 20+. Looked ok, although a bit tentative in the beginning, but thats understandable. And also, he looked like a strong backfoot player to me, something which is coming up with this new breed of indian batsmen (maybe because of Aus academy stint).

    By Blogger worma, at 04:15

  • someone posted on timesofindia thatvenugopal rao is being tried at #3 and now #1 because Ganguly does not think he is upto the mark at this level, and this is the way to kick him out after he fails repeatedly

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:16

  • too early to comment on rao. of the 3 innings in which he's batted the only innings he's played is in the match against SL. the impression i gained from that match was that he was suited to the test matches, although he might have played the way he did due to the match situation and instructions from the team. he did play pace reasonably well

    By Blogger JD, at 04:17

  • k-slice..sure i agree with the frustration part. Just dont like the going overboard with it. Raising or dropping our expecations to extremes. Now I got a feeling that we expect from our team to score 397+ against Zim. Why ? Because Nz did it, and we should be better ! Thats the kind of thing which is more frustrating than the Indian losses.
But sure boss, they need to improve, and they are currently way below average in ODIs.
But in test matches, I dont think we should carry our ODI frustrations there. Not unless we get a disastor in tests (of the same proportions that is happening in ODIs)

    By Blogger worma, at 04:19

  • Gaurav...
That was funny ... but nvr trust TOI.... they hv a habit of dreaming abt things... If this is true... chk out telegraph . the Dada.com

Its been long since I heard of A Tayudu doing something interesting... Any news where he is these days?

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:19

  • gaurav
im not a big fan of gangulu to begin with. but i do beleive that if he gets a big one her eit will boost his confidence and then he might perform better in the future.

    By Blogger K-Slice, at 04:19

  • ok bring in the yahoo ids! i will add you to a yahoo chatroom where we will discuss the game :)

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 04:20

  • Sorry folks... I meant Ambati Rayudu

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:20

  • hehe yeda you are right...

btw guys a nice shot in the off side from Kaif

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:20

  • Good shot from Kaif...finally warming up to Streak.

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 04:22

  • Slice,

I too hope ganguly gets back into the big league.... i am not a big fan of dravid as captain and there is no one else currently who could take the role

Add me, my yahoo id 'enabld22'

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:22

  • haha, i thought you were talking about tatanda taibu

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 04:22

  • Run rate finally inching towards 4

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 04:23

  • coolguy,

you are talking as if runrate is inching towards 6, hehe

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:25

  • I love these 2 guys Kaif and Yuvraj.... They show u the traits of the best students.. Why?
Gangguly played the role of the mentor to them.... by backing them in the beginning... and they hv learnt from the mentor.. what he has been best in..." Flattering to decieve"...
In my opinioon... thts what these guys hv been doing so far... Hope they will learn fro RD some day..

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:25

  • Guys,

Post your yahoo ids to join in realtime chat.... ruchi has set up a conference....

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:27

  • Is anyone watching the game? Where? How is the quality? I am watching it on sgstream. fantastic quality. Watched the last game on cricketstream. But getting some problems today. The most irritating thing is they start telecast once they game is into 4th or 5th over. But they promptly issued me a refund (within minutes actually).

    By Blogger Jai, at 04:28

  • I m OK here.... This is better... bcoz I can expect Prem to be chipping in even if a lil
later... PLUS the regulars on this blog ... come here daily... not on Yahoo though

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:29

  • Looks like our guys r planning to see off Streak!!!

    By Blogger N, at 04:29

  • sgstrem is the best of the lot

    By Blogger JD, at 04:29

  • wow, now i am envious of prem. when he asked for yahoo ids, every user thrown in their id, but without going on a tangent i think sony should come up with a new show "india's cricketer" in the lines of indian idol and fame gurukul. however novice the concept seems, we need raw talent someone like irfan pathan

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 04:30

  • n: yeah looks like that. but they should take more singles, esp Kaif..playing too many dot balls. not sure of the field though, it may be tight. am not watching it.

    By Blogger worma, at 04:31

  • Worma,
Kaif might hv decided not to take a risk.... especially since Dada is his partner in sunning for singles... :-)

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:33

  • Not sure if singles are not coming because of the fields set. Kaif seems to be leaving everything

    By Blogger N, at 04:33

  • Amazed at you guys enthu to join a yahoo conference to discuss an ODI match ...that too with Zim.

An aside. Peter Roebuch in today's SMH.

"Australia have been outplayed man for man. Before this series began, only two Englishmen could have been confident of securing a place in a side chosen from between these teams. No one in their right mind could ignore Andrew Flintoff or Steve Harmison. Now the wheel has turned. Few Australians have demanded a place in the collective. Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting and Glenn McGrath must be chosen. Adam Gilchrist has the edge on his butter-fingered counterpart but his form has been patchy."

The capriciousness of form and the sad end of an era !

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 04:34

  • how do you sign up with sgstream?

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 04:34

  • Ruchi, Prem's situation when he asked for yahoo ID was sad.. he was cornerd by the hacker and couldnt post in his own blog. So he needed someone else to post his comments on the match situation.. In addition, he discussed some unforgettable cricket with some of us..

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:34

  • Its been ages since Ind made 50/1 against any opposition

    By Blogger N, at 04:35

  • whats the event name in sgsstream?

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 04:36

  • visit www.sportingstreams.com, become a member and it would guide u through

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:36

  • N:
Why do u say so? Forgot Bangladesh ?...;)

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:36

  • Hopefully they'll be a bit more positive against Blignaut. He was the one who gave 90 odd runs against NZ

    By Blogger N, at 04:37

  • Coolguy,
you don't need to sign up. with sgstream. Go to their home page. Search by event id 'harare'. Then follow it from there. Once you receive the instant email with the invoice id, go back to sgstream homepage, choose 'Watch' and paste the invoice id. Watch the game. :)

    By Blogger Jai, at 04:37

  • Did we actually manage 50/1 against Bangladesh?!!!

    By Blogger N, at 04:38

  • worma
that is the single biggest contributor to our woeful performance in ODI. when the opposition bowls tight and denies us boundaries, we panic and instead of lookin for safe shot for singles we repeatedly go for the big shots.
there was a period of time during wright's tenure when we were pretty good in taking singles where he emphasized having more singles and dot balls. we could really use a refresher course in that lesson

    By Blogger JD, at 04:38

  • To be frank, I came early in the morning expecting a different sort of match.. not a 54/1 in 15 overs kinda score.. I was hoping that Taibu would have a few headaches in choosing his powerplays.. now, as I am typing this, Ganguly is gone.. *SIGH*

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:38

  • Whats going on? Kaif faced 61 Balls and Ganguly just 26?

And why why, they are not trying RP singh in this match. No better match to give him a match feel.

Ridiculos..these guys wants to perform here and then boost their egos..

    By Blogger Medium_Fast_LegSpin, at 04:39

  • GP,
How is the quality at sportingstream? How mcuh do you have to pay?

    By Blogger Jai, at 04:39

  • Ganguly gone

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:39

  • Again out to short ball on the leg side!!!...honestly against such a friendly attack he shouldnt have wasted a start.

    By Blogger N, at 04:41

  • Jai, Quality is good.. you pay about 7 dollars (or 4 BP) per month for all the cricket match..

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:41

  • Ganguly must b happy ... People can't critisize him on 2 points like they always do...
    - Runs scored
    - Strike rate

See what a healthy strike rate he had... Another gem of an innings from our dear skipper

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:42

  • what do you guys think of ajay jadeja being brought back into the indian team? if my memory serves me right, when he was banned from playing cricket, he had an ODI average of 36- an average that none of the gen x of the indian team has managed (not even sehwag)

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 04:44

  • true Yeda....gangs was looking good for the big one today. Bad Luck as lways. Stupid short pitched bowling....

    By Blogger Jiet, at 04:45

  • jiet, cricinfo says ganguly did not notice the short fine leg fielder !!..basic mistake...when things are going wrong batsmen tend to find such stupid ways of getting out

    By Blogger worma, at 04:47

  • Ruchi,
I agree... We should also get Azhar, Robin Singh and Srinath back too...

C'mon yaar... Dont kill the talent which is waiting to come up... Already .. thr r Gangulys and Laxmans... in the team .. Getting back oldies like Jaadeja ...would b the most defeatist thing ever to do

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:47

  • Ruchi,

  • hilarity at cricinfo "Ganguly dismissal - at first it looked as if it was Coventry who took the catch but now we have got confirmation that it was actually Ewing who took the catch." - are these guys twins or what..or standing next to each other ? ;-)

    By Blogger worma, at 04:49

  • Worma,
Poor Hayden has been having the same prob... cant see whr the englishmen r standing...

R v pushing Ganguly in his league ??

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:49

  • Guys watchin live, is it tough out there to bat. The same attack NZ teared into pieces

    By Blogger Ananth, at 04:50

  • worma...Ganguly was not in position to play the shot...he just waved his bat at it hoping it would fall safe.

    By Blogger Jiet, at 04:51

  • yeda...I've seen Hayden this tour, having basic technical problems...not playing late, not playing enough of backfoot etc. I dont think he has found stupid ways of getting out yet ?

    By Blogger worma, at 04:51

  • Kaif = 32 from 67

Looks like he has gone into a defense paralysis from which he comes out for a second or two, hits a boudary or takes a single and slips right back in...

  • spare a thought for those poor cricinfo commentators.. has anyone ever seen or heard Coventry or Ewing before?

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:51

  • yeda, don't you think you have been sort of brainwashed by the BCCI to think that the future of indian cricket lies in the hands of the youngsters (tell me one youngster apart from pathan who seems to be promising)

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 04:52

  • Its not tough.... Indian batsmen are scared....

Newzealand will still make 300+ on this pitch

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:53

  • jiet..yeah thats called a stupid way :-)..nothing technical or complicated about it. as cricinfo said, 'didn't notice the fielder'

    By Blogger worma, at 04:53

  • Thats a very good point ruchi, all the youngsters have flattered only to deceive. Problem lies at the top.... we need to replace the selection committee with ex cricketers.

    By Blogger gaurav, at 04:54

  • Worma,
Reckon tht... specially since u r the onw watching it...

Par apney Gangu's ways r not stupid yaar... He is an artist.. and has patented the art of getting out imaginatively.. for long... and thr r guys in India (I know quite a gud no of them ) who r not amused at his dismissal ways...

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 04:54

  • SCG: first ball beaten;second ball OUT;
Must be ruing his luck to get a hundred in 160 balls against ZIM.

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 04:55

  • oh worma...just remembered, Hayden did get bowled around his legs

    By Blogger Jiet, at 04:57

  • Yes, Ruchi on the similar grounds tell me one youngster whom you know before he break into the indian team.
Dont talk as if u want to bring back Kapil dev as our strike bowler and Srikanth as our oppner

    By Blogger Medium_Fast_LegSpin, at 04:57

  • Kaif not playing sensibly here...after taking up som many balls the worst thing he can do is get out...another wild swing and misses edging the ball...I guess frustration after facing 5 dot balls.

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 04:57

  • jiet did he ??..to a fast bowler ?

    By Blogger worma, at 04:58

  • A clean boundary hit by Dravid of the backfoot.

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 04:58

  • Arunlal arunlal arunlal.. after the ball crosses the boundary rope and stays dead, he says "Thats four" !! I think he is commenting following the game on TV rather than on the field..

    By Blogger Raju, at 04:58

  • So, Kaif plays yet another maiden over...

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 04:59

  • so abhay you mean to say that we should not utilize our resources. there is a difference between players who have retired and those who haven't.

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 04:59

  • This is the 20th over and there is no sweeper on the cover boundary. We saw the cover boundary being manned in the second hour of every innings in the Ashes matches

    By Blogger Jiet, at 05:00

  • Zim fielding is not bad. besides their bowlers are bowling to the field. Offside is packed and so not easy to find gaps. anything on legside is easy pickings.

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 05:00

  • Gaurav and Ruchi, (Wow.. the names look gud together...:-))

BCCI doing a brain-wash ... wud b the most classic story in cricket world... anyways .. going back to ur point on youngsters coming good or not...
See.. apart from Robin Singh... no Indian cricketer had come back stroongly once he has passed his prime... JP Yadav may repeat it...

I am not saying tht u get all the newcomers only... the team has to hav a balance of both... An Ajay Jadeja may b good for Ranji... but for team India.. v need to hv guys who bcom gud enuf by the time RD, SRT move on... at least they can guide the replacements of these stalwarts then

    By Blogger Yeda_Yakub, at 05:01

  • Zim Ind - a good match at this time.

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 05:02

  • Dravid bitten by Kaif virus too!!! After hitting 1st ball 4, he could not take one single in rest of the 5 balls... I can't imagine what our final score will be if these 2 guys stay till the end...

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 05:02

  • worma,

Hayden was bowled by Flintoff in either the second or the thirs test. It was smart bowling by Freddie but stupid batting

    By Blogger Jiet, at 05:02

  • Ruchi:

If you are watching live, did you see Heath Streak dive, slide and stop a ball from going to 4?

I don't think any of our older fielders can do thay any more. Not even Jadeja. He has put on a lot of weight and at his age, it will be dificult to get back to his prime fitness. Srinath was one of the worst fielders, so was Prasad. Robin Singh is too old now. Kambli is as good as retired, he is not even in Mumbai team.

So which older player is left? We have fielding problem with our younger lot but at least they have age on their side. Why pull the fielding standards down by bringing in older players?
