The civilized way

In many ways, it is such a pity Jagmohan Dalmiya is no longer the BCCI president (okay, no longer officially, et cetera).
No, don't laugh. Consider, instead, all the angst we routinely go through each time the national selection committee meets; consider the time we spend on each selection, wondering for instance which quota was satisfied when a whatsisname Jadhav was picked as replacement for Sachin Tendulkar, say.
If Dalmiya were president, none of that would have happened. For proof, consider this story on how they carry out selection exercises in Bengal, where JD is boss.

  • No wonder the Bengal cricket team is a joke...

Actually, if the local newspapers are to be believed, Dalmia's locus standi in the CAB was far from secure in the last year.In fact, many were predicting his eventual "dethronement".In the end, however, he did carry the elections but that's another story.Point is, as so often happens in the cricket establishment everywhere, protest against the incumbent took the form of constant blocking of day to day operations by the opposition. The lack of a selections committee is just one of the many things that happened (or failed to happen). The incumbent, of course, couldn't give a shit!

  • With all due respect I think Dheeraj Jadhav was making some ripples as an opener in Ranji circuit wasn't he?
