Never run off a misfield

CoolGuy'OC said... "Never run off a misfield" gavaskar mentions...Prem what is the logic behind this?

Simple, really. You were expecting the fielder to take it clean, so weren't on your mark for the run. A misfield, unless it is very hard hit, wont carry the ball too far out of the batsman's reach. Means the fielder has less recovery to do, to get to the ball, than you as a batsman have to change a pacifist intention into an activist, run-seeking one. Odds with the fielder, if he is inside the ring
