Rao factor

Shankar Anand said...
Prem: How do you give confidence to a guy like Rao when you push Pathan ahead of him with about 15 overs to spare?

Good question, Shankar, but tell me this: Which, of two items on the to-do list, would you give the greater priority: 1. Give Rao confidence and 2. Do what the situation calls for so India maximises its chance of putting up a big score?

If giving Rao confidence was what the management was about, we just went through what, four league games? Where you either supersubbed him, or batted him low. That would have been a good time to give the man some time in the middle, promote him up, give him confidence. Not sure I'd use a final for such exercises, though -- especially this situation, where you need to up the tempo, not lower it.

  • We got to WIN, not reinforce the CHOKER's tag.

  • Rao should definitely bat lower down the order, at #12 if possible :)

  • While he could be our next Kaif (but more consistent than Kaif), but not today. We need Dhoni badly. Hope Agarkar fires too.

  • prem..i wanted to know if there is any use of the training camps and practice matches held just before lanka tour..its pretty evident that rao is not made for odi's...why dont we try to find playyers for different versions...when u alredy have dravid and kaif to stabilize the innings, why bring in a rao..there are batsmen like dhawan, rayadu and raina waiting there who could be better odi players..
