Says on the scoreboard...

...venugopal rao is next in. Which i seriously hope is a mis-print; or at least, merely indicative of the original intention at the start of the innings. If the team really bats Rao in this situation ahead of Dhoni and even Pathan, I'll figure we've forgotten how to push to winning positions.

  • Prem: How do you give confidence to a guy like Rao when you push Pathan ahead of him with about 15 overs to spare?

  • vERY TRUE PREM THIS IS THOUGHTLESS, DUMB, EVEN IF vr PLAYS WELL HERE, I GUESS IT DEFIES ALL COMMON SENSE. WE MUST PLAY FOR PERCENTAGES AND md HAS BEEN IN SUCH GOOD FORM, ATLEAST SEND jp

  • I guess with Yuvraj gone, it should be good for Rao to play till the 40th over. If we can get the score to around 210 by 40 overs, the last overs can be used by Dhoni, JPY, Pathan to get another 80-90 runs. Bond has 5 overs but Vettori and Mills are done with their quota.

BTW, Who is going to be super-sub-ed by Harbhajan?

  • Shankar this is not abt giving yenu confidence this is abt winning this finals!! If we loose here the confidence of whole of India will go down we are 1 billion others living here praying for India to win and gaining dignity, respesct and confidence from our teams performance and you are worried abt venu. Cricket is a team sport

  • No Prem, it's not a misprint.*L*

according to me even Gautam Gambhir is a better choice

  • no doubt at all - Gambhir is a terrific choice.

  • Hope Venu saves me from all the wrath here by scoring a run a ball 50 :-)

  • shankar don’t mistake me me a fan of venu but right now it will only hurt the team and do him no good too. If he scores slowly now or gets out I can bet my bottom dollar every tom dick and harry at every airport, restaurant and even a rest room will start harassing venu for failing. The selectors will also drop him and selectors do play to the galleries , So don’t know how it helps venu as his game is not suited for this situation, he is a correct classy kind of guy who fits in at no 3 or 4 in ODIs with 35+ overs to go. Look he is 2 of 11 balls

  • the innings has lost all its momentu, GC and SG to be blamed this is thoughtless. We have 4 lower order batsmen who can score wuickly and we don't want to risk even one of them. If one or 2 of them got out then venu could always be our safety net come in and play his natural slow game. The worst things in life is to die wondering what if i had tried a little harder, what if i had risked a little more? i staunchly believe in taking calculated risks

  • I don't think sending Yuvraj was a mistake, he just got out cheap that's all. picking rao is the mistake

lets hope dhoni doesn't undo the good work completely. 300 is not possible witout him

  • what a waste of overs and time. 8 runs in 16 balls and he was clearly not suited to this kind of a situation. this is cruel i guess now it is going to being a long time before we see venu which is sad, this is the worst part of indian cricket. we select our ODI 11 and 15 based on ranji 4 day performances, we put youngsters in odd positions where they have never played even in gully cricket and then ask them to win us finals against the likes of bond and vettori. look at this series in a span of 10 days venu has been asked to baat at all kinds of positions opener, 1down, 4 down etc. Yes an international batsmen must be capable of doing this, but was venu prepeared for this by our domestic circuit or anywhere before being asked to perform on the biggest stage?

  • My deepest sympathies are with Venu. First of all given our depth in batting(?) like Dhoni, JPY, Irfan did we need Venu in the XI?

But my take is having taken him in the XI we should not ask him to bat at 9 to be fair to him. We already knew that he was not a hard hitting batsman. He should have played only if one of SG, VS, RD or MK was injured.

    But having chosen him.....
