Hospital rounds

As he waits for his fitness test tomorrow, Saurav is busy working on his fitness at the Eden Gardens, this report says.
Elsewhere, there is this three day camp scheduled, apparently; the offshoot being Sachin Tendulkar will miss out on the Duleep Trophy game for West, which he was slated to lead, against South. Donno what a three-day camp is for -- at the end of the Zimbabwean tour, I was in fact hoping there would be one of a longer duration, which would help captain, coach and players iron out there differences and come to an equitable working relationship.

  • Prem:

What would be more important for Sachin? Attending a 3-day camp or getting some match practice in Duleep trphy match?

  • prem any comments on yuvi's latest statement about Chappell and the current fitness regime? Also wonder if sachin may become the skipper of india by the beginning of pak tour. I have a strong feeling sach may be happy to captain india because he would otherwise have not agreed to captain west zone and i suspect mumbai ( the 2nd part is speculative)

  • Regular practice for the team memebrs:
How do Indian team players do their Riyaaz ?.
After Zim tour, Is it upto individual's to stay in touch with daily cricket practice ?
What if Yuvi just plays 2 matches in the Challenger trophy after the tour. Is that all the cricket he get to play before we start the SL series ? or say a 3 day training camp before the match ?

  • ruchir: I would have thought playing Duleep. I thought it was equally important for Zaheer and Agarkar, too. A touch surprised, therefore, at the timing of this camp, and about whether it will serve any real purpose. Given the duration, my suspicion is, this is more about establishing working relationships than about actual cricket practise -- if that is the case, maybe some good could come of it after all.

Avinash: I doubt Sachin will touch the captaincy with a barge pole. He has, after quitting as India captain, led Mumbai etc in domestic matches when he was available to play them; doubt that his leading West Zone here contains the sort of tea leaves you are looking at, pal.

  • Prem:

I read somewhere that committee looking at the contracts wanted to interact with players and had suggested that if there was a camp before SL series they would get a chance of talking to them.

Probably, this camp was arranged to help them talk to players!!!

  • @Prem,
How come BCCI scheduled the Duleep trophy game and the warm up at the same time?
You definitely don't need a MS in Operations to look at an events calendar. I think even you mentioned this before saying all it needed was a calendar and a few colored markers. I guess complaints like these are just exercises in futility.

BCCI - Board of Control for Cricket Incompetence

    It should be JDCCI.

Jagmohan Dalmiya's Control over Cricketing Idiocies.

  • Ruchir,
When are you going to comment on Ganguly? Eagerly waiting for my daily dose of amusement.

By Blogger Bhairo Singh, at 11:35

  • bhairo, your mind is very narrow. Let something new happen for me to make a comment, my friend. :-)

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 11:37

  • This is not only unprofessional, it's stupid! Shouldn't having a Duleep Trophy game on a particular set of days doesn't automatically disqualify those days from contention for a camp? Or did someone forget to strike off the dates when the Duleep Trophy game was scheduled and the scheduler of the camp didn't know? What the BCCI is telling us is that the Duleep Trophy, the premier domestic tournament (it is more elite than the Ranji Trophy and more of a tournament than the Irani Trophy) doesn't really matter. So we're robbed of seeing a top-notch game matching the bowling of West Zone (Agarkar, Pathan, Zaheer, Bahutule) against the batting might of South Zone (Dravid, Laxman, Badani, Rayudu, Ramesh, Sriram), not to mention Kumble and Tendulkar. Shouldn't this have been a marquee match-up, with full attendance by the selectors and television coverage?

In any case, I'm surprised to see Kambli miss out from the West Zone team, after being tipped as one of the top contenders for the captaincy of Mumbai.

    PS: Loved the "bhairo-narrow" line.

  • Ruchir, you can comment on how Dalmiya helped Ganguly's restaurant to get the contrcts from US army Or how Ganguly played politics and got himself examined by Kalyan Mukherjee when ideally he should have waited for Dr. Joshi to examine him Or how Ganguly's cricket acedamy a big joke and some problems brewing between Sachin and Ganguly as Sachin cancelled his participation for the opening of the academy. Plenty of your kind of topics to comment on. :-))

By Blogger Bhairo Singh, at 11:55

  • bhairo:

    1. There is nothing to comment on the US military deal.
    2. Already commented on Mukherjee examination.
    3. We don't know if acadamy will be a joke or a success, so why comment now?
    4. Never knew, Sachin cancelled his participation. Don't know anything so can't comment.

    There you go....

  • saurav: You mean you are shocked? After all, friend, this is just a domestic game, and a coaching camp -- this board has, on one memorable occasion, scheduled the Indian team to play in Toronto and Sharjah on the exact same dates (on that occasion, it did its damndest to pull out of one of the two, was threatned with penalities, ended up sending two 'equal' teams to both venues, and getting thrashed). On another occasion, it scheduled an Australian tour of India in such a way that within 22 hours of playing a day-nighter in India, the team was supposed to take the field in Sharjah. I could dig up more examples, pal -- but these will do, to tell you this is child's play for the BCCI; you have no idea what it can do when it gets serious about messing things up.

  • PP, any speculation on the impact of sportingstreams on the pricing of cricket packages by Dish Network?

    By Blogger Gardhabh, at 14:35

  • gardhabh, sportingstreams does not actually provide the feed themselves. They find the links:)
