Running between wickets

Despite the tight set field, these two have shown good quality in their basic cricket: KS is now going 62 dot balls, 41 singles and 6 twos in an innings of 96 off 120; Jayawardene has gone 29 dots to 26 singles and 1 two; this rotation has kept the board ticking, kept the bowlers from settling to any one line, and now placed Lanka where it can look to really accelerate.

  • To me, the wicket looks placid. If the Srilankans were not 2 down before this match, on this wicket, they would have gone hammer and tongs. My bet is, they will reach around 270 odd. That will set the match up for them.I liked the way they worked their way.If one day cricket is all slog, this innings can be a testament for proper cricket.

  • Watching the match on 'mute' takes a lot. Have been doing that and its tough. Someone please stop these moron comentators. Please.

  • I am also pleased to see the discipline in our bowling. Many times our bowlers have been shoddy and till this match, i can see some improvement. However our ground fielding still aeons away from the standards of Aus,NZ AND SA.Y'day's NW/SA was terriffic.

  • I am still puzzled why indian cricketers run like pussies.Look at their strides.Where is the sprint? In the days of sliding stops why are we still running by the side of the ball?Is it still a very difficult art?

  • Ha ha .. Holysmoke..welcome to the club.I have been watching the indian cricket in mute mode for many many years. If you think indian blood makes poor commentators, i will suggest you to listn to a female commentator commenting on SA/NZ matches. She is a gem and yes.. "indian origin".Indians are the only breed who can accept untrained mediocre lots in any sphere of activity.

  • Ground fielding is pretty good I thought from what I am seeing. No??

  • Yes Laks, theese guys are putting me to sleep. Who the hell are they anyway?? I heard some Arunlal and Fernando. I dont know who is better of these two. Bloody sucks.

  • What is the meaning of "pretty good"..Ground fielding to me is

1.Quick response and running speed to reach the ball.the strides have to be long and quick.Unless these guys train in sprints, their speed will not improve.

2.Athletic ability to dive, stop and pickup in one motion

3.Throwing ability. One need not be tall and strong to throw the ball fast to the wicket keeper.

In none of this ,we have shown any competence.

Where our fielding has always been good is in the area of catching.Traditionally we always had excellent catchers be it in slips or outfield.

  • I think Yadav, Sachin, Agarkar, Harbhajan are pretty good on the field today. Atleast when we compare this to the pathetic fielding both ground and catch, seen in the Ashes. Ofcourse they can do better, but players like Sachin need to be careful. Did you see the one he dived and landed on his right elbow....scary.

  • O.K..I will give you a low down on the commentators

1.Arunlal - former opening bat, excellent technique.Like his batting, his diction is correct but a very boring commentator, mostly repeating what he has already said tjousand times.
2.Ranjit Fernando - is one of the oldest bandicoots in Srilanka commenting for almost 30 years.Inspite of hearing him thousand times, you will not remember afterwords one word he has said.
3.Sivaramakrishnan - Shouts some times, poor delivery ,lack of style and humour. One of those what you see you comment characters.
4.Ravi Sastry - Bold, to the point.Worth listning to him

others who torture us in ESPNSTAR ARE Harsha Boghle,Sunil Gavaskar,Dean Jones.
Siddu was another madcap, thankfully he is off our bandwith.

You want to know the best as far as i am concerned? Undoubtfully Sanjay Manjrekar.Ebullient,joyful,humourous.relaxed are some of the adjectives i will use about his commenting.

  • Ha.. what a finish.. i think we have a competitive match on our hands.298 on the board and they still have Murali.Let us see what our batsman are capable of..Looking forward to it..At this stage, i think it is even stevens ..still
