The axeman cometh

Sanath Jayasuriya axed from the Test squad, goes the story. Talk of wheels going full circle, it was on Indian soil that the southpaw really exploded onto the international consciousness in course of Sri Lanka's World Cup run -- and it is here that the seemingly unthinkable happens to him.
Interestingly Mahela Jayawardene, who has for long been touted as the natural heir to the Aravinda mantle, seems to have had some of the sheen rubbed off him; the vice captain's armband goes to Chaminda Vaas.
Elsewhere on Cricinfo, Sa'adi Tawfeeq looks at Jayasuriya's plight and asks why the opener, so obviously lacking in form and fitness, was not rested at the least after India had taken a 4-0 lead. From that piece, this little item of interest:
A member of the national selection committee, Don Anurasiri, has been on tour in India. But we understand that he is being asked to return home by Sri Lanka Cricket apparently because selections have not gone the way that the national selectors wanted them to. A case in point has been the non-inclusion of fast bowling all-rounder Dilhara Lokuhettige and batsman Thilan Samaraweera. They have played just one game apiece.

  • Sri Lanka cricket has taken a pretty hard decision . But I think it wasnt axing . SL cricket knows how valuable Jayasuriya is . So they want to probably rest him enough so that he is in good nick for the 2007 WC

  • A bit of a problem: Blogger for some reason is making posting very difficult just now; seems to be some bug. Will do the best I can, notwithstanding.

To those asking about Ruchir and Worma, both are not posting because they are either travelling, or busy -- and should be back to action stations soon enough

Now let me get back to this thing and see what's taking ages for each post to go up

  • Now Lankans dont have the quality fast bowlers like Laboroy,Ratnayake,Raamanaayake,Buddika these days.. They badly miss them.

  • Dear Prem,

Obviously, 'main prem ke diwane nehin hoon'. However, in general I respect you for your views, however much they may differ from mine. Which is why I desisted from commenting when some bloggers started this tirade against you about your nurturing of certain bloggers who appeared to be your sycophants... And whoever is trying to block you, whether it is prem panijkar [yes, i just noticed there is one such creature somewhere in one of the threads] or some one else, should be reported to the FBI internet crime branch.

But this post is about something else. It is about the Open Thread from yesterday, where you did not respond to a post I sent, about the truth in the accusation that some made about you harbouring a group of sycophants after all... why else would you command ruchir and co? remember, you wrote: 'Ruchir and guys dont turn this into a witch hunt for gavaskar', and they stopped!

and why would they need to listen to you? is this not against the spirit of the blog? just curious...

    ;--))
