The Bajji clone

From Shriniwas Rao in the Express, a piece on Johan Botha.
Curiosity got the better of him when he saw and appreciated what Harbhajan Singh had been doing with the ball back here in India.
The Turbanator’s ability to spin the ball with a degree of variation and certain approach made Botha mock-up his style in the same way.
‘‘He is studying Harbhajan’s action and can become a very useful off-spinner in both versions of the game,’’ Arthur had said then. Botha, say experts who’ve seen him bowl, has remodelled his action in such ways where he has now mastered the art of bowling vicious doosras and the straighter ones to great effect.

  • Prem,

The day is not far when we Indians will have to learn the art of spin from others.

You know of any decent spinner in India outside Bhajji/Kumble & Murli?

  • Saurabh Wahi,
Fortunately, there are two very good spinners leading the U-19 attack-- Piyush Chawla and Shahbaaz Nadeem. Both are just 16 and already playing first-class cricket rather sucessfully. Hopefully once Kumble goes, one of them will be ready to take over.
