Board games

Check this out -- close to two weeks ago, former Chief Election Commissioner TS Krishnamurthi in his role as observer for the upcoming BCCI elections announced that all candidates had to file their nominations by November 27 -- to wit, two days before the scheduled elections.
Now read this story:
A former BCCI principal office-bearer and a representative of a State association, supporting Union Minister Sharad Pawar for the post of President, told The Hindu that he and other members would tell Mr. Krishnamurthy the practical difficulties in filing nominations by 5 p.m. on November 27.

Duh! What is with these guys? Even in Bihar, where elections are generally reminiscent of freeform wrestling in an akhara in Laloo Yadav's backyard, they manage to do the basics. And nothing in an election is as basic as filing your nomination before deadline. So just what 'practical difficulty' is there for the Pawar faction in filing? It's simple, chap: Decide if you are contesting. Deciding who is contesting. Fill out form (If you can't read and write, get someone else to do it for you). Check all entries. Submit.
The thing though is, 'practical difficulty' is an euphemism -- what the faction really wants is to keep the other group guessing, till the very last moment. If you think back to the aborted election of September this year, you'll remember it was not clear, till the morning of the day, whether Pawar would stand, or no. That way, the bargaining, the horse-trading, can go on till the very last moment; the more desperate the rival faction gets, the more benefits you can milk. But by openly declaring your candidature, you lose out on the bargaining power you have if, say, the night before the election you can go up to your rival and say, look, chap, I have lined up 16 votes out of 30, it's a lock. So what do I get if a couple of my supporters decide to change sides?
I hope, I seriously hope, Krishnamurthi tells them this is non-negotiable; they either file their nomination papers, or they don't get to contest.

  • A little update for those of you subscribed to sportingstreams. The sports links in the forums area has a posting referring to some site called Indiancricket something or other. You follow that link and the new site is offering streams of the Indian - SA matches for $12 (for the remaining 4 matches). Yesterday the site was saying they had 350 slots left, last night they said 250 odd slots remaining (for the streaming) and today morning they said 300 odd slots remaining.
I posted a comment on sportingstreams saying that first they got new members for the Indian SA series to pay $12. Then they are making an excuse that they couldnt find the link to stream and asking everyone to go to Indiancricket where the stream is being offered for another $12. What a sweet con!!
And guess what? the people on sportingstreams removed my postings immediately. For a site which is letting all the abusive comments from members remain in the chain, it is really suspicious that they should remove my comments accusing them of fleecing the members (I posted in the sports link 'bookmark this site').

Meantime, don't encourage these stupid sites.

I don't know how they are able to do without legal hasseles.

    IN THE CITY
    England officials still dissatisfied

"John Carr, ECB director (cricket operations) and Richard Bevan, PCA chief executive who are in the city to discuss logistics of England’s forthcoming tour of India have reiterated again that they are not satisfied with the venues. The officials had another round of discussions with Board joint secretary Goutam Das Gupta."

Next time such buggers ask for a venue change, the board officials should just give them a cd of Mick Jagger's CD with that famous song "Cant get no Satisfaction".

What a royal snub. O boy. The practices matches are at Jamshedpur and Agartala. Awesome!!

  • @gandharbh:

Good catch mate! You knew these slimy guys were up to something. theyd didnt get the link. So now its crystal clear. They want another 12$ to double their revenues.

And those guys have the balls to say that its the Indians on their site who abuse all the time. They get their bread cuz of us and now they wanna bite the hand that feeds.

I like SS though...shows lots of matches...but I smelt something fishy in this India SA thing...and now youve unravelled the mystery.

@smart chap: LOL! There you go. Spin off pretending to be a rival. Talk about multiple avatars.

  • Gardhabh,
sportingstreams is very shady; those guys lie about everything. They claim they find all their links on Google! They work so hard staying up all noght searching for links! Please, it's just a webcam-- I've actually seen the screen go to the menu and change the channel many times. Not to mention, they feel that legally they are on the right footing since they did not ever explicitly advertise the RSA-India series. I'm a law school student. Legally, a contract cannot be enforced if one of the parties withheld a "material" fact. A "material" fact is one that would cause the opposing party to change their mind. The sportingstreams people would obviously have known that the 400-odd people signing up the day before and the day of the 1st ODI were obviously signing up for the Ind-RSA series. But, they chose to remain mum. That is withholding a "material" fact. And if such a case were to go to court, they would almost certainly be forced to refund those new members' money. Then again, the legality of everything they do is somewhat quetionable as well. Alas, I am dependent on them, if I want to see Indian cricket on a student's budget.

P.S. I don't post this info on their site because I suspect they may ban me-- and then I will not have the fix for my addiction that is Indian cricket-- like crack, I tell you.
But, with finals coming up in less than a month, it's probably a good thing for my career that I can't watch the games. :-)

  • You know the funny thing,
Before sportingstreams would not even allow someone to post about any competitors site. If someone mentioned willow.tv, it would immediately be deleted. And now, they expect us to believe they are siphoning off by far the largest portion of their clientele to another site!

    By Blogger Sahir, at 12:27

  • True, There should be an Independent verification and validation agency who shoul stop all these nonsense...fILE NOMination at least 2 weeks before and there should be a ban against lobbying, horsetarding . This IV&V should have full powers if they come to know about any UTT's ....

    Anyways DALMIYA GONA WIN....
