India-RSA Game 2 Thread 1

Here you go, guys, open thread for the game; let me know when this gets overloaded, and I will start another. As in the first game, I'll stay put on the main screen, and post updates after every ten overs, for both innings. Cheers, and here's to a great game.

  • Flute: I figured out the problem with windows media player and sgstream.

It is to do with the router. If u have a netgear router it is causing it.

    Options?
    May be connect directly
Or use on of the public proxies
    may work

    By Blogger cricfan, at 03:27

  • hope not..i already bought the match online :(

    By Blogger balanced_view, at 03:27

  • cricfan..are u sure about the netgear issue?

    By Blogger balanced_view, at 03:30

  • i have three m/cs all thru netgear and only my business m/c worked as it was going thru a VPN tunnel and it did not work even on the same m/c when not on VPN tunnel
    This had me thinking

vola tried a direct connection from modem and it worked

    By Blogger cricfan, at 03:31

  • Try this link for scores and commentary

India has opted to bowl first, in spite of the fact that the wicket seems to be dry and a good one for batting. Dravid marked the dew factor as the reason for his decision, Graeme Smith admitted that he too would have bowled first had he won the toss.

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 03:35

  • Team composition?
    Who is playing/super-sub?
    DOes anyone have this info.

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 03:36

  • Good Afternoon everyone.. India has won the toss and put South Africa into bat.. Should be a cracking contest

    By Blogger galli_cricket, at 03:36

  • After Toss comments by toss-losing captain are BS as someone pointed out...they shud ask comments before toss is spun

  • team composition pls

    By Blogger Avinash, at 03:39

  • I think if we restrict them under 300 we can win else .....

    By Blogger cricfan, at 03:40

  • early wickets is thee key theey have a few big hitters at thee end, kemp, pollock, hall, boucher so get theem in early

    By Blogger Avinash, at 03:41

  • India go in with the same XI, SuperSub - Gautam Gambhir.

    By Blogger cricfan, at 03:41

  • India same team as Hyd - GG is SS

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 03:41

  • this very good team. For chase under dew there will be initial swing and we can send gambhir

    By Blogger cricfan, at 03:42

  • thankx cricfan

    By Blogger Avinash, at 03:43

  • kaif ko drop karke raina ko leneka tha yaar!!

By Blogger Rahul Kulkarni, at 03:43

  • anyone watching on sgstream? are you getting the game.. i am getting a message "event will start shortly..please stay tuned"

By Blogger losing now, at 03:43

  • One additional good thing about chasing on a belter is that sometimes a batsman like Kallis ends up scoring too slowly in the middle overs (i.e targetting 300 when it really is a 325 pitch)

    By Blogger Sahir, at 03:43

  • i am thinking probably tendlya and gambhir will open with may be pathan at 3 dravid at 4 sehwag at 5 Yuvi, dhoni...

    By Blogger cricfan, at 03:44

  • Rahul,
Now that we are chasing, I would much rather prefer Kaif over Raina.

    By Blogger Sahir, at 03:44

  • GG opening with SRT today?

RP Singh opening with Ajit Agarkar?

    By Blogger galli_cricket, at 03:44

  • Well...India has got their compositions and super sub right..very crucual game for India..Hope they can win! Will do wonders for them..

    By Blogger ilovecricket, at 03:45

  • losing now:yes on sgsteam i am getting the same message

    By Blogger cricfan, at 03:45

  • cricfan,
Our lineup all depends on the total posted by RSA

    By Blogger Sahir, at 03:46

  • cricfan: thanks. seems to be buffering a lot..hope it does not do that during the live telecast.

By Blogger losing now, at 03:46

  • Sahir:
Agreed < 270 GG will come
    else may be Sehwag

    By Blogger cricfan, at 03:47

  • I would have thought plying raina here would have been a bonus.. And dont quite agree with playing a batsman as the SS. Had we lost the toss, the SS would have been superfluous

    By Blogger galli_cricket, at 03:47

  • Now if we can only make them 35/5 in the first 5 :-)

    By Blogger ilovecricket, at 03:47

  • LN:
    Hope so too

    By Blogger cricfan, at 03:47

  • LN:

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 03:50

  • same here..my net connection is good too. wonder if there is any "fne tuning" we can do with settings just like winamp.

By Blogger losing now, at 03:50

  • how is sgstream during the live telecast? does it buffer every 10 seconds like SS does sometimes

    By Blogger CoolGuy'OC, at 03:50

  • I think today we will know the impact of missing MK bowling last match, as I saw Yuvi tying them up

    By Blogger cricfan, at 03:50

  • cricfan apun ko bhi bol naa match kidhar dekhne kaa

By Blogger Rahul Kulkarni, at 03:52

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 04:06

  • u r right cricfan though this was a bit lucky

    By Blogger @mit, at 04:06

  • dravid should say in thee microphone "they are hiding kallu guys"

    By Blogger Jiet, at 04:06

  • Agarkar starts with a beauty-- could it be one of his 'on fire' days?

    By Blogger Sahir, at 04:06

  • i think people using ss or auido commentary will prefer prem to do blog update than podcast ... my 2 cents

    By Blogger @mit, at 04:07

  • Very, very, very, very, slow pitch

    By Blogger Sahir, at 04:07

  • Agarkar abhi mast halwa degaa

By Blogger Rahul Kulkarni, at 04:07

  • or prem can put it on blog and ruchir can read it to be a pod cast :-)

    By Blogger @mit, at 04:07

  • jiet:

Yeah, I think we will get better analysis on podcast than what we get when he writes... In podcast he can say a lot in 2-3 minutes but can not, probably, type everything he is thinking...

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 04:08

  • The bowling plan to Smith seems to be well wide of offstump and force him to play through the offside; absolutely nothing anywhere near his pads.

    By Blogger Sahir, at 04:08

  • Smith walking across? is that true?

    By Blogger @mit, at 04:09

  • very bad quality on sgstream

    By Blogger cricfan, at 04:09

  • Aagrkar ko four maara kya abhi tak

By Blogger Rahul Kulkarni, at 04:09

  • Lol...Smith lets out a bloodcrudling scream after playing the ball

    By Blogger Jiet, at 04:10

  • Smith, shuffling again.... hopefuly RD/GC and bowlers have a plan against that...

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 04:10

  • Rahul - nahi maara --- but if it makes YOU feel batter he bowled a wide -- no go and party

    By Blogger @mit, at 04:10

  • cricfan:

    My sgstream is working perfect...

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 04:11

  • Off-break on leg stump for Mr.Smith please

    By Blogger Jiet, at 04:11

  • nothing on legside for graeme smith...

By Blogger Mohan Krishnamoorthy, at 04:11

  • all in all, great start..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 04:11

  • Rahul -- sorry yaar - just 3 runs ... keep praying and ur prayer will be answered in the next over OK?

    By Blogger @mit, at 04:11

  • party kidhar tere ghar pe hai kya... kooch daru sharu hai kya ki ekdum thakela sukaa party hai?

By Blogger Rahul Kulkarni, at 04:11

  • @mit,
walking across would be an understatement-- the guy moved so much accross that all three stumps were exposed behind his-- still only playing it down to third man for a single

    By Blogger Sahir, at 04:11

  • would be good to bring on bhajji first change today to just test out smith for an over or two on the offside...

By Blogger Mohan Krishnamoorthy, at 04:11

  • Commentators discussing how the dew was quite heavy last night

    By Blogger Sahir, at 04:12

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 04:14

  • hat tero toh... 4 mara.. SA ki toh aise ki taisi

By Blogger Rahul Kulkarni, at 04:15

  • Isn't aus's 21 match record one of straight victories? SA, if they win would be unbeaten. While it's no mean task. Comparing the two is stupid

    By Blogger lukkhamaster, at 04:15

  • One bad boundary ball ruined what could have been a maiden over by Pathan

    By Blogger Sahir, at 04:15

  • occasional boundary is OK if they bowl like this otherwise

    By Blogger @mit, at 04:15

  • smith ka wicket milenga naa toh bahut majaa aa jayega saala

By Blogger Rahul Kulkarni, at 04:16

By Blogger Mohan Krishnamoorthy, at 04:16

  • Afrikans have to make most of the first 20 overs.. if the dont, this ptch is gonna spin.. and we will screw them..
pitch report.. showed lot of dust..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 04:16

  • Hall will go wild after AA this over and that may be decider either way

    By Blogger @mit, at 04:16

  • bhai log hall ka lbw out tha kya?

By Blogger Rahul Kulkarni, at 04:17

  • Pathan tends to bowl a 4 ball in every over if not more often. Havent seen him trouble the batsmane yet..... even the wicket was an ordinary delivery. Am worried about this chap's bowling

    By Blogger BTB, at 04:17

  • rahul:

no, hall had big inside edge.

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 04:17

  • Kemp was shaky against Yuvi even in the last match.. only time he tried to hit over the top, it ballooned up.. however it was a no ball and Kaif dropped it anyway..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 04:18

  • 4 overs 14/1.. very good start I would say..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 04:19

  • btb tension mat le yaar... paataa wicket hai re... kya kon bowling dalegaa... saala public ka paisa vasool hona mangta hai ki nahi... arre 4 aur sixer dekhne ko public aata hai re... wicket kisko dekhne ka hai...

Main soona woh Uppal ka pitch curator ko sumdi main kopche main leke jaake kharcha pani diya... bakwaas wicket banaya iske vaaste..

By Blogger Rahul Kulkarni, at 04:21

  • I guess.. Bangalore has good saloons.. even Dhoni was in the saloon..
    Smith goes.. plumb.
shuffling didnt save him this time.. asshole..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 04:21

  • shuffle led him to his failure....

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 04:21

  • 14 for 2 - both to IP --- looks to be a good start --- guys can u explain how the wicket fell?

    By Blogger Avinash, at 04:22

  • So much for bringing on a spinner :)

    By Blogger BTB, at 04:22

  • Prem, it seems to me that RSA are suffering from the after effects of attending the wedding... Sahara Computers was it?

By Blogger Mohan Krishnamoorthy, at 04:23

  • This is what Prem wrote just before the wicket:

    The Smith shuffle

When he was a little boy, someone told Graeme Smith son, the trick to batting is, the bowler running in is the signal for you to start marching sideways. Confuses the bowler, foxes the umpire who thinks the ball must have struck you outside the line coz all three stumps will be showing behind your butt.
I mean, don't mean to be rude, but that shuffle has to be the least aesthetic thing in international cricket today. Love to see how Pathan bowls to him -- hasn't had too many chances yet, it's mostly been Agarkar. More to the point, love to see if they use Bajji up front -- just one over, even; I mean, beats me how a batsman can keep his eye on the ball if he walks about this way.

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 04:23

  • Pathan to Smith, out Lbw!! One shuffle too many from Smith, this time the line was a lot straighter, Smith plays and misses and is trapped in front of the stumps, Harper's finger goes up and Pathan has struck a vital blow! G Smith lbw b I Pathan 3(10) 4s-0 6s-0

  • the LBW of smith was MAINLY because they stuck to an offside discipline to smith. he couldn't get ANYTHING on his favourite legside and, in desperation, walked to the offside to work it on leg. Got himself plumb in front...

  • Prem...I don't think Smith used to shuffle this way always....atleast not that much. And even now I dont remember watching it so pronounced in test matches. Probably something which he has developed as a domination technique. Doesnt work so well if the bowler has enough swing to fox him.

But I must say he's been getting away with it rather well. Been in devastating ODI form of late...and even the NZ pacers couldn't stop him. Also shows how well Irfan has responded after just watching and observing through on game.

  • Pathan bowls very well to shufflers.. he foxed Yasir Hammeed/Yohanna.. and now Smith..

  • worma,
Somrthing Smith has developed playing 20/20 cricket for Somerset. That's where I first saw it.

By Blogger Rahul Kulkarni, at 04:30

  • sahir...hmm that makes sense. Also dont think he deploys it in test matches. Will watch him closely in Aus. Although they hardly have any swing bowlers to exploit this.
