  • looks like SA might not reach 200 even if they bat all the 50 overs - RD must bring on Yuvi and SRT as well

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 06:19

  • I think they are ready to take anyone

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 06:19

  • Kemp will go to HS

    By Blogger @mit, at 06:19

  • another maidem

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 06:19

  • 90 balls left .104/6. Interesting to see how they go from here.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:20

  • MK 7 3 10 0

    By Blogger Rishi, at 06:20

  • MK needs to pick up 1 /2 wickets coz KEMP may ruin his figures anytime

    By Blogger @mit, at 06:21

  • first No ball from shewag

    By Blogger Rishi, at 06:22

  • What ideas do the Chappel-RD combine have for the number 3 slot - given the current situation, I wonder

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 06:22

  • runrate 2.97!!

    By Blogger random, at 06:22

  • that was a wide by Shewag. Mot given!

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 06:22

  • 108 / 6 36 overs

    By Blogger @mit, at 06:22

  • India wouldnt mind a few big hits at this stage, lest one of the batters miscues it.

    Drinks on. 107/6

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:22

  • it ws not wide.. pitched outside the offtump and turned a lot.. batsman has all the time to play..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 06:23

  • i think if the score is low - which it will be -- VS and SRT will open ... to give VS a chance to settle and play a knock of substance .. GG will not be used unless required

    By Blogger @mit, at 06:24

  • Prem...what did you mean Prince playing the role of Indian supersub? You mean he helped the cause of Indian players? But I thought it was his brief to anchor down...let boucher, Kemp etc to try and take whatever little risks they could afford. Its not as if the others were getting out due to the pressure created due to him?

    By Blogger worma, at 06:24

  • very strange innings this by the SA's. not been too many attempts for singles which is very unlike them. think the indian fielding combined with the atmosphere at the ground have spooked em a bit

    By Blogger JD, at 06:24

  • 14 overs left - 3 each from Harbachan adn Kartick means the remaining 10 can be shared between RP Singh, SRT and even Yuvi. I would prefer RP SIngh because he is more accurate and slower than either Agarkar or Pathan.

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 06:25

  • sorry - remaining 8****

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 06:26

  • Super ball from Karthik..Kemp bamboozled.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:26

  • that's another maiden

    By Blogger lukkhamaster, at 06:27

  • jd,

thats why the field placing is so good. with wickets down, they are hesitant to go over the top. Dravid happily continues keeping a close field.

    4th Maiden from Karthik. Hah.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:27

  • SA commentators are so much better than SL

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:28

  • Vishy and SMG on TV!

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 06:28

  • Sunny and Vishy sitting together in the VIP box.

    Karthik 8-4-10-0. !

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:28

  • Robin Jackman is British I think.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:29

  • Somethings gonna happen soon- 110-6. SA has played 175 dot balls till now.

    34 singles and 15 Boundaries.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:30

  • thx dark

he is doing a good job

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:30

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 06:33

  • man..this kemp guy looks like a farmer..who can play in the NFL. Poor MK just got tackled by him

By Blogger losing now, at 06:33

  • Kemp could have been a villain in a Bollywood thriller :)

    By Blogger BTB, at 06:34

  • Get SRT for Leg spin now..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 06:34

  • looks dangerous :)

    By Blogger BTB, at 06:34

  • holy shit! what power

By Blogger losing now, at 06:35

  • I see...probably SA who played for England...that fiasco when he was refused entry to Guayana during the apartheid era.

Kemp is a lot like Pietersen.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:35

  • Wonder how SRT would have gone on this wicket.

    Karthik almost unplayable today.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:37

  • MK bowling his heart out today

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:39

  • If India get to see the new ball w/o loss of wickets today, they should see this one through.

Botha is the only specialist spinner here. Thats some mantle for a player who made his debut 2 days back.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:39

  • 10 4 16 0..wow

    By Blogger random, at 06:40

  • Before MK's spell today, I said we need to support him to come good as he is the best available. thanks for proving me right MK!

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 06:40

  • come on.. spinners bowling friggin no balls. criminal stuff

By Blogger losing now, at 06:40

  • Why are they not going for biggies??

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 06:40

  • Kartik needs a lot of help from the pitch to perform .. to be consistent he will need to get at least decently restrictive on unhelpful conditions

    By Blogger BTB, at 06:41

  • yeah key is early overs in Ind batting

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:42

  • India will keep bowling with the slower bowlers to keep the pace down. Agarkar might bowl if at all.

By Blogger The Archer, at 06:42

  • it looked PLUMB!!!

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 06:43

  • bad decisions are plenty... might make up for it in Indian innings by being generous in LBWs

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 06:44

  • that is the problem for MK

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:45

  • needs good conditions

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:48

  • yacrik : there was an inside edge on that decision. there were other bad decisions though

By Blogger losing now, at 06:49

  • wht happened to singles by SA

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:49

  • survives!!

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:51

  • Kemp gone...super catch.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 06:54

  • did bhajji get him after all?

    By Blogger SantosLHalper, at 06:55

  • HS strikes!!

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:55

  • what a catch! the VERY BEST catch in the deep one could take - marvelous effort by the young man!

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 06:55

  • catch of the day!!!

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:56

  • who's supersub for India??

    By Blogger suraj, at 06:57

  • Gautam is the supersub

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 06:57

  • GG

    By Blogger Rishi, at 06:58

  • Can someone describe the catch by RPS?

    By Blogger sid, at 06:58

  • dravid dropped 3 catches today.. something is up.

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 06:59

  • SA is not using their super sub

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 06:59

  • 45.5 Harbhajan Singh to Kemp, OUT: lofted away with the spin to the
midwicket region, not a well timed shot, RP Singh moves across
quickly in the deep, drives to right and takes a tremendous
    outfield catch.

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 07:00

  • Harbhajan to Kemp, out Caught by RP Singh!! What an outstanding effort that was, Kemp sweeps that in the air to the mid wicket region, RP Singh at deep mid wicket dives forward and plucks it inches above the ground, just amazing!

    By Blogger Rishi, at 07:00

  • Swept off the off stump, dipping towards deep midwicket -- RPS deeper and wider, had to run to his right and in at an angle, still shy of the ball, dived forward, got both hands under the ball almost as it hit the turf, fell flat on his chest and managed to keep the jar from shaking the ball loose.

By Blogger Prem Panicker, at 07:00

  • 45.5 Harbhajan Singh to Kemp, OUT: lofted away with the spin to the

  • sif- big hoist by kemp to deep midwicket

RP comes running realizes he is little short and dives to pick the catch inches off the ground

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:01

  • lol

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 07:01

  • 6 finally..Pollock...150 up...wonder why Ontong wasnt supersubbed.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 07:01

  • dark : u dont want to lose a NTINI or Nel Ionly ones left)

    By Blogger BTB, at 07:03

  • Pollock bowled...158/8.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 07:04

  • clean bowled

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:05

  • But cdnt Ashwell prince be replaced by Ontong now?

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 07:05

  • hey all, just woke up a wonderful Indian bowling performance..but why is yuvi being bowled, with so many overs left of other bowlers?

    By Blogger flute, at 07:05

  • last two overs - Yuvi will bowl one - Agarkar might bowl the last one

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 07:05

  • but ontong would not be able to bat then

    By Blogger ilovecricket, at 07:06

  • NTINI very dangerous

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 07:06

  • OK..i see...subbed player and replaced player cant both bat in the same match..ok..that why Ontong's not on.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 07:06

  • Dark: Yes but sincce Prince is out he cant bat ... similarly if a bowler has finished his spell ... u cant sub him and get teh sub to bowl any more overs

    By Blogger BTB, at 07:06

  • sainthari: sehwag. you dont want to give any pace on the ball for these guys to work with

By Blogger Prem Panicker, at 07:06

  • flute

    pitch really favoring spinners

    that's why

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:07

  • mmm... that said, here comes agarkar :-)

By Blogger Prem Panicker, at 07:07

  • saithari: that's why :-) tailenders love pace, get bat to ball and it is runs. to spin, they actually ahve to read it, and *hit* it

By Blogger Prem Panicker, at 07:09

  • bad!!!!

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:09

  • sorry Prem - looks like RD is gonna use Agarkar - actually Sehway might have been a bettr choice for the last over

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 07:10

  • Im not watching the game..is 170 defendable?

By Blogger The Archer, at 07:10

  • why agarkar.. is it to tell africans that fast bowling has no hope in this match

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 07:10

  • well agarkars special brand of fast bowling isn't at any rate :)

    By Blogger SantosLHalper, at 07:11

  • only lapse in RD's captaincy today

last over shd have been VS

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:11

  • that should've been doesn't...as in doesn't have any hope

    By Blogger SantosLHalper, at 07:12

  • spinners simply unplayable today

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:12

  • Well lets see how the batsmen so...should be achievable..:-)

    By Blogger ilovecricket, at 07:13

  • Whats the final score guys ??

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 07:13

  • spinner did this and that; they did not do much with pacers too; who took the initial 3 wickets and gave away only 58 runs in 18 overs

    By Blogger Yacrik, at 07:14

  • Is 170 defendable???
I mean...spin pitch or not, the Nemesis for India will always be pace bowlers...so i think Polloc/Ntini and Nel key for SA...we should play first 10 overs safely and then open out...rather than go bang bang from beginning.

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 07:14

  • Prem - something strange about this match - India finished their 50 overs with almost 15 minutes to spare :)

I do agree, a lot of spinners were used, but still .....

Is that the basic difference between Saurav and Rahul??

    By Blogger SaintHari, at 07:15

  • 169 -9 in 50

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:16

  • RD has dropped about 6/7 catches in 9 matches as captain

    By Blogger Schumi, at 07:19

  • Agarkar interview:

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 07:23

  • That is really strange I bet he has not dropped 6/7 in all his prev matches

    By Blogger Amit, at 07:24

  • slip catching needs super fast reflexes and anticipation.. rahul probably has slowed down.. who are the alternative slip fielders?

    By Blogger natty, at 07:27

  • he dropped 3 today

new thread please for 2nd innings???

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:28

  • yeah i knw amit RD has not dropped 6/7 matches this blog sometims loses its purpose complettly like not appreciating agarkar he has quite consistent atleast by his standards this season even pathan has gone for runs else he has been brillant agarkar has been steady dear bloggers keying in words is easy playing is sure tough no wonder indians are consumers pf sport not participants unliike ausies kids who go out and play not keep keying in

    By Blogger sand_dunes, at 07:30

  • Need to blood young n reflex-quick SLIP catches for India

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 07:33

  • read slip catchers not catches. Typo

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 07:33

  • read slip catchers not catches. Typo

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 07:33

  • Prem,

Do u think we are going to see complaints abt pitches from SA now if they lose a couple??

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:33

  • sand_dunes, I don't know if you ever lived in India, but if you did, you will see scores and scores of indian kids playing in every available ground..
just coz you are in a developed country, with dazzeled eyes, don't try to put down indians on this blog.

    By Blogger flute, at 07:34

  • very quiet here....everyone sleeping?

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 07:34

  • sainthari: RD has been much better at over rates yes; prolly because he doesn't have quite so many mid-wicket conferences.

suraj: they might. Bad business this by India -- I mean, look at the turning tracks they give us when we go there.

By Blogger Prem Panicker, at 07:35

  • Brits and Aussies would have started whining right away abt underprepared pitches at the firs instance of thei failure against spin

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:35

  • coffee-breakfast break. later

By Blogger Prem Panicker, at 07:35

  • sand_dunes, apart from that, you right , Agarkar has been largely consistent in this season, atleast by his standards. But, Lets not talking of Indians just coz you din't like some Agarkr related comment.

    By Blogger flute, at 07:36

  • Analysis of SA batsmen:
    ADBW: Cant play anything
    GS: Decent bat..
JK: Good plyer of pace and spin.. low strike rate though
Prince: Good player of pace.. terrible at spin
Hall: Avg bat.. not much of a spin player
Boucher: OK player of spin and pace
Kemp: Very Good player of pace, decent player of spin.. cant accelarate against spin though
Polly: Decent player of pace and spin
    Rest not worth discussing..

For those looking for links. picked this up at ss. let us know if they work and are good. i am on sg

By Blogger losing now, at 07:37

  • hey folks- are they showing this game on ss? if yes, please let me know what server and #.

By Blogger Sam Kumar, at 07:37

  • well today's over rate is definitely a function of spinners being used

as for the conferences, things were going well so didn't need too many of those!

One thing I noticed in last couple of matches is Dhoni yelling "jaldi jaldi" at everyone in between overs
Maybe he has been assigned the role of keeping track of over rate and pushes everyone a little bit

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:38

  • India should bat like Test cricket. Another opportunity for GC/RD to 'experiment'. The batting order should be -

    By Blogger inside_story, at 07:40

  • PREM,
Regarding ur earlier post...Please reply to this, will appreciate:

thats what i thought abt SRT as well...did not want him to bring on SRT and maybe ease the pressure for SA. But, why is it now when we think of SRT we think that way?
There was a point in time when we may have said, Lets get SRT to bowl and his slow spinners will be useful. Is SRT's value as a part time spinner dimnishing for us?

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 07:41

Good in its day...but that day has gone..served me well last year..unf none of the links work.

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 07:42

  • karthik is the man

    By Blogger gangulysucks, at 07:45

  • Thanks Chappel,
Abt AB Devilliers, perhaps ur reading too much after 1-2 games...he is considered a very talented, upcoming cricketer in SA...I dont think he is that bad...Good player of pace bowling...slightly weak against spin...Feel free to correct me if u have watched more of ABDV

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 07:45

  • yeah but only on spinning tracks

    By Blogger suraj, at 07:46

  • just woke up. saw the scorecard. Got surprised. Is it the pitch like that? or our spinners bowled exceedingly well? I think I did the right thing by sleeping (scoring rate was any way too slow). Now, I can follow Indian innings

    By Blogger devatha, at 07:46

  • BTW shud the last over been bowled by VSehwag...considering the lack of pace troubled most all SA guys? Why AA?

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 07:46

  • pls tell me - is the game being showed in ss. It does not seem so, but would appreciate if anyone can confirm. Just got up and wld love to see india innings.

By Blogger Sam Kumar, at 07:48

  • i am watching it on willow the players just walked in

    By Blogger tombaan, at 07:50

  • GU: the man's getting older; if he spent six months nursing his tennis elbow, stands to reason his bowling skills will be rustier than before (stands to reason too he would have practised batting, after his recovery, not leg spin); and given that rustiness and his tendency to try leg spin which is way harder to control, is almost axiomatic he will be a bit wayward -- even in his pomp, he bowled one four ball per over, at the least. Doubt that physically he is where he can give the ball the sort of sharp rip that made him effective.

Righto, game on, see you guys back on main blog at 10 over intervals.

By Blogger Prem Panicker, at 07:50

  • glorious
u cannot please all if it was a spinner and he went for a toss people would talk the other way

    By Blogger tombaan, at 07:51

  • Whether Smith is moving for every ball while the bowler is on the path ?

    By Blogger gangulysucks, at 07:51

  • gu: sehwag *was* my suggestion. as tombaan points out, he could have got slogged too, but more often than not, tailenders prefer pace -- they don't have to think, just swing through the line. Reading spin, waiting for it and hitting it is way harder. Anyways, no real harm done. Over, and out of here for now

By Blogger Prem Panicker, at 07:53

  • gu,
ADBW is averaging 10 after 10+ ODIs.. If he is gifting wickets to Indian seamers twice in a row with such a past record, then he miht be talented, but he must be missing something else.. atleast for now..
In test match, he feasted on WI bolwing on current flat WI wickets.. the likes of where.. Lara scored 400 against arugably one of the best bowling attacks, and ENG could still save the match by anchorin for 5 sessions.. so I will wait.. however as of now, he looks awefullt out of sorts..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 07:55

  • Indian innings started??????????????

    By Blogger zacked, at 07:59

  • new thread for 2nd Inn please....

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 08:00

  • Any place i can get audio commentary right now? cricketworld doenst seem to be working :(

    By Blogger Deepak, at 08:00

  • i feel atleast today's dismissal of abDV is similar to sometimes how VS gets out...loose flick off to square leg or some loose shot...as u said, i will also rein in any judgement for now.

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 08:01

  • new thread for 2nd Inn please....

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 08:01

  • More conventional(!) batting order today since only small total???RD at #3 spot?
    What say u folks?

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 08:03

  • Have more slow-spin tracks for the rest of the games
HELLO CURATORS, pitch-makers, are you listening - slow pitches for SA matches.

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 08:05

  • new thread in place, folks, per your command :-)

By Blogger Prem Panicker, at 08:07

  • SS users....Buggerlugs says that highlights for today's match from 2300 GMT today evening. Meanwhile Arsenal up 1-0 against Wigan Athletic. bigone 3535

By Blogger Dark Nights, at 08:08

  • Thanks prem :-)
Folks, lets go to the new thread and blog there :-)

By Blogger Glorious Uncertainty(GU), at 08:09

  • earlier Ravi was saying that the dew would make the pitch low and slower.. and now he says that the dew has made the pitch slightly quicker ?? what nonsense?
