India-SL Game 7 open thread

At work, guys, and can't join you till maybe midnight my time -- halfway through the first innings or later, that is -- but for those watching and logged in, here you go, a place to meet. Bring your own beer. See you later, and here's to a good game.

586 Comments:

  • SL won the TOSS and elected to bat. Any comments about the pitch guys?

By Blogger Partha (பார்த்தா), at 22:21

  • pitch will help bowling initially.. later on will become flat..
guess SL want to get done with the nightmare..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 22:23

  • SL again play into India's hands. Chasing suits India's strategy with Raina as the super sub and five bowlers.

    By Blogger king2k2, at 22:25

  • whats the SS URL for tonite?

By Blogger Sam Kumar, at 22:26

  • is it the same url as before?

    By Blogger Toney, at 22:28

  • same url does not see to work..can some who is watchign on ss confirm the #s used in the url...such as 4545? i assume it is bigone

By Blogger Sam Kumar, at 22:29

  • convenient flu for gambhir;)

    By Blogger roublen, at 22:31

  • yup

    By Blogger roublen, at 22:31

  • 39, 49, etc.

    By Blogger roublen, at 22:31

  • thanks roublen

By Blogger Sam Kumar, at 22:32

  • any impressions of samaraweera?

    By Blogger roublen, at 22:38

  • AA starts in the usual style - with lose deliveries

By Blogger Partha (பார்த்தா), at 22:39

  • tharanga gone catch at first slip off pathan sri lanka 10-1

    By Blogger roublen, at 22:42

  • Tharanga could turn out to be a very useful player if he learns to be patient...good areas from Agarkar first ball

    By Blogger Jiet, at 22:45

  • Samarweera seems a little bemused by the pace of the pitch...on second thoughts this may turn out to be to 260-270 pitch.

    By Blogger Jiet, at 22:47

  • taranga is done in by awkward bounce for 2 games in a row now

By Blogger Confused Indian Cricket Fan, at 22:48

  • TS really struggling to time the ball

    By Blogger Jiet, at 22:49

  • agarkar getting his line and length right here

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 22:50

  • Looks like TTS bat has only edges..... Middling nothing

    By Blogger indCric, at 22:50

  • Nice bounce for Pathan, wonder how the SLan bowlers will do

    By Blogger Toney, at 22:51

  • just in the last match, everybody praised Indian team giving just 3 wides+noballs. In this ODI, we already have 3 wides in 4.1 overs.

    By Blogger devatha, at 22:51

  • Hate to sound like Ravi Shastri but some signs early on the pitch is two-paced

    By Blogger Jiet, at 22:51

  • pathan miyan kya kar rahe hai

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 22:52

  • yeah not sure if that wicket was good bowling by Pathan or bad batting by Tharanga. Have to see how the South Africans do, I guess.

    By Blogger roublen, at 22:52

  • TTS looks like a tail ender .... Horrible shot selection ... no footwork ... all at sea

    By Blogger indCric, at 22:52

  • jiet, hate to say this but you do sound like Shastri

    By Blogger Toney, at 22:52

  • I guess this one was bad batting from Tharanga..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 22:53

  • what the hell is pathan complaining about

    By Blogger ramshorns, at 22:53

  • Tharanga looks as if he will torrid time against moving ball..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 22:53

  • Tharanga looks as if he will have torrid time against moving ball..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 22:54

  • toney ;)...can't understand why Samarweera has not timed a single on of his half dozen swipes at the ball

    By Blogger Jiet, at 22:54

  • Samarveera is trying too hard to finsh Jayasurya's career..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 22:55

  • The pitch reminds me of the Wankhede one. Kind of reddish

    By Blogger Toney, at 22:56

  • he's swinging too hard, playing slightly cross-bat. The right arm is turning over and screwing with his shot.

    By Blogger roublen, at 22:56

  • hey, say it with confidence, it might even be true!

    By Blogger roublen, at 22:57

  • The only plus about TTS batting is that he is able to keep the incomming ball from getting into the stumps ... Horrendous timing though ...

    By Blogger indCric, at 22:57

  • TS is playing a very good innings for india..

By Blogger Confused Indian Cricket Fan, at 22:57

  • Another one bites the dust!

By Blogger losing now, at 22:57

  • TTS is a very docile bat.. scores at a pace Amarnath did in test matches.. however he manages that at home pitches..
by the way its good he is gone..
I dont like such poor ODI cricket even if we are winning..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 22:57

  • samarveera gone by AA

    By Blogger king2k2, at 22:58

  • the golden boy strikes again!

    By Blogger Tiger, at 22:58

  • oooh no TS is gone :( sad for india :)) ..

By Blogger Confused Indian Cricket Fan, at 22:58

  • nice innings, samaraweera, wish you stayed for another 15 overs

    By Blogger Toney, at 22:58

  • brilliant batting from TS...end of one that will live long in the memory

    By Blogger Jiet, at 22:58

  • samaraweera gone. guess Jayasuriya could not have done worse!

By Blogger losing now, at 22:58

  • Annother failed experiment..Samaraweera

    By Blogger Crick_Love, at 22:58

  • who got him?

    By Blogger @mit, at 22:58

  • I am afraid that this series will go without a SRT century..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 22:58

  • srt's pet dog doing good so far. we only invested 160 games on him.

    By Blogger ramshorns, at 22:59

  • AGARKAR!

By Blogger losing now, at 22:59

  • poor chap..Samaraweera..feeling sorry for him..

    By Blogger ilovecricket, at 22:59

  • I hope they score 250 atleast..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 22:59

  • KS and Jayawardene..let's see. MA staying back

By Blogger losing now, at 22:59

  • agarkar. nothing ball on his pads, Samaraweera couldn't keep the flick down, catch at square leg

    By Blogger roublen, at 22:59

  • i got it --- if ramshorn is feeling the horns in his ass that means it ought to be Agarkar

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:00

  • Agarkar with those glasses looks like an ET

    By Blogger indCric, at 23:01

  • ILOVECRICKET
    Don't feel sorry for anyone.

    By Blogger ramshorns, at 23:01

  • indcric
    what does that ET mean

    By Blogger ramshorns, at 23:03

  • samaraweeras defense seemed pretty good, and he hit one good cover drive. But not a good ODI player, at this point. shot, sangakarra

    By Blogger roublen, at 23:03

  • Extra Terrestrial?

    By Blogger Toney, at 23:03

  • ET ...Extra Terrestial

    By Blogger indCric, at 23:03

  • Guys watching, is the wicket two paced? How is it for batting?

By Blogger S Fernando, at 23:03

  • rams:extra-terrestrial .. from speilberg's movie ..

By Blogger Confused Indian Cricket Fan, at 23:04

  • extra terrestrial = ET

By Blogger Ruchi Shah, at 23:04

  • more like Bambi, I would have said.

    By Blogger roublen, at 23:04

  • thanks toney. pet dog really looks good today.

    By Blogger ramshorns, at 23:04

    By Blogger ramshorns, at 23:05

  • rahul_fan...we are still in the process of deciding

    By Blogger Jiet, at 23:06

  • Ranjit Fernandos's commentary is the most henious form of torture mankind has invented ...

    By Blogger indCric, at 23:06

  • Ramsingh - OK have ur money's worth

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:06

  • KS looks solid today. Just as I write, edges 1 from AA for 4.

    By Blogger blueboy, at 23:06

  • Agarkar beats KS with a beuaty...edged for 4

    By Blogger Jiet, at 23:07

  • There's no open thread in the discussion forum, right? I didnt see any

    By Blogger Toney, at 23:07

  • guys .. dnt u feel tat MA has conspired against indian fans by choosing to bat first .. the match will last only 80 overs :( .. (hehe .. i am really feeling cocky now .. )

By Blogger Confused Indian Cricket Fan, at 23:07

  • I think GG should have played today in place of Kaif or Raina, as he is in a better nick..........what are your thoughts guys?

    By Blogger rahul_fan, at 23:07

  • indcric the entire commentary team is crap :(

    By Blogger king2k2, at 23:07

    By Blogger rahul_fan, at 23:08

  • rahul_fan, GG is down with fever. Atleast thats what the reports said.

    By Blogger blueboy, at 23:09

  • LOL losing now

    By Blogger Toney, at 23:09

  • AA's ghost writer seems to be decent .. may be biased at times ... I find his articles interesting and readable

    By Blogger indCric, at 23:09

  • that was a typo .. should have been AR for arjuna

    By Blogger indCric, at 23:10

    By Blogger indCric, at 23:11

    By Blogger blueboy, at 23:13

  • [OFF TOPIC]SS is buffering very badly. there was a link to change some buffer settings - not able to access SS. Can anyone here tell me what needs to be changed in Winamp?

By Blogger Partha (பார்த்தா), at 23:13

    By Blogger rahul_fan, at 23:13

  • dada is captain

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:14

  • yeah, I think the Duleep final match looks really interesting. If Ganguly makes good he's a certainty for Tests, and rightly so.

    By Blogger roublen, at 23:14

  • Wow, run rate 3.1 after 10

    By Blogger Toney, at 23:15

    By Blogger Tiger, at 23:19

  • roublen...rakesh patel is medium pace about 120s I think. He can hurry Ganguly.

    By Blogger Jiet, at 23:19

  • how come raina is on the field??

    By Blogger suraj, at 23:22

  • tiger, ss website loads for you? Doesnt for me

    By Blogger Toney, at 23:22

  • Tiger, thats so sweet.. Thanks a lot. :-)

    By Blogger Raju, at 23:23

  • During 80s, Narotham Puri, Ravi Chaturvedi(hindi) used to be good commentrators.

Ravi Shastri, Arun Lal, Maninder Singh, Sanjay Manjrekar are boring with phoney accent and display regional bias in their commentary.

Sidhu is the best among Indian com.

    By Blogger Rajg, at 23:23

  • toney..check your link again

    By Blogger balanced_view, at 23:23

  • toney - Pak Test starts in 8 minutes.. try at that time... its not working for me either

    By Blogger Tiger, at 23:23

  • jiet:lol .. the bengal tiger is gna roar back ;)

By Blogger losing now, at 23:23

  • I think L Shiva is pretty good.

    By Blogger roublen, at 23:25

  • tiger, I meant the website, not the link. SportingStreams website is not loading...

    By Blogger Toney, at 23:25

  • good ball...RPSingh

    By Blogger Rajg, at 23:25

  • cracker .. RPS is gooood..

By Blogger Confused Indian Cricket Fan, at 23:25

  • toney - the site was uploading albeit very slowly a few minutes ago

    By Blogger Tiger, at 23:26

  • Rajg, Sidhu the best. I hope that's sarcasm. The bloody fellow is a clown just like the rest you have mentioned (lal and the others). Harsha Boghe is probably one of the better ones in india

    By Blogger lukkhamaster, at 23:26

  • RP singh looks impressive.

    By Blogger blueboy, at 23:27

  • RPS replaced AN; better physical strength and good angle for right handers.

    By Blogger Rajg, at 23:27

  • RP Singh was thrashed in that game against India B in challengers. Just an off-day for him?

    By Blogger roublen, at 23:27

  • good comeback by RP, does it mean we will have a wicket soon? Will it be Sanga or Jaya?

    By Blogger devatha, at 23:28

  • ramshorns said "
But what good are those strokes when they dont translate into teams winning in big games. I could care less if there are cross batted swipes as long as the team wins in the finals. "

I don't agree , what about you all.
It is ok in a pressure situation, but say there are no "great" strokeplayers, do you think the game would interest so much fans.

That is why Nirmal Sekhar had to write this about Tendulkar.
"For us Indians, it's a bit like that when it comes to Tendulkar. Too often we evaluate him and what he has done in the middle in terms of India's victories and defeats. Which is a pity, for when we bring in such pedestrian arithmetic, what we can and should admire in the great man eludes our grasp. To put it simply, those of us who rate Tendulkar's masterpieces purely in terms of what they have meant for the team — played in a winning cause or not — sadly settle for less. And some of us will realise this long after the great little man has played his last innings for his country.
Celebrate his genius now, revel in its incandescence now. In other lands where cricket is played, they build monuments for far lesser men. So let us celebrate Tendulkar's genius, in victory and in defeat. Some time in the not too distant future, we may not have anything quite like it in the Indian cricket team to celebrate.
In my book, anyway, there is nothing in Indian sport now (perhaps ever) that is quite as worthy of celebration as the genius of Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar."

    By Blogger krish, at 23:28

  • pak link is now working

    By Blogger Tiger, at 23:28

  • pak vs eng is ON on SS

By Blogger losing now, at 23:29

  • Why is AA still continuing.
    7th over????
    Any comments

    By Blogger FineLeg, at 23:29

  • kaif saves a boundary

    By Blogger blueboy, at 23:29

  • Still at work, unfortunately -- with one eye on the SL hara kiri -- why would anyone in his right mind want to bat first on this one?

On another note, you guys think we are taking a leaf from England? Dravid went out, Raina came in to field. RD came back, SRT signalled to Raina to stay put, and went out himself.

By Blogger Prem Panicker, at 23:30

  • Now 4 ball from AA

    By Blogger FineLeg, at 23:30

  • GOD. Is KAif good or what

By Blogger losing now, at 23:30

  • guys

just came in and saw RD sitting in the dressing wassaup?

    Is he sitting out again?

By Blogger Shakeel Abedi, at 23:30

  • Pak game is LIVE on SS now.

    By Blogger Raju, at 23:30

  • fielding has been superb.

    By Blogger lukkhamaster, at 23:30

  • ys dived for cameras ....

    By Blogger Rajg, at 23:31

  • Any comment on AA 7-over spell...why so long spell?

    By Blogger FineLeg, at 23:31

  • krish .. cudnt agree with u and nirmal shekhar more .. :)

By Blogger Confused Indian Cricket Fan, at 23:31

  • We should keep AA for some short spells in between

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:32

  • Thats why i am saying 7-over spell is overkill

    By Blogger FineLeg, at 23:32

  • GREAT bounce extracted by RPS

    By Blogger FineLeg, at 23:33

  • RPS gets disconcerting bounce and good pace. seems a good find.

    By Blogger blueboy, at 23:33

  • guys watching pak vs eng on ss.. r u having buffering/choppy video problem?

By Blogger losing now, at 23:33

  • I like how Dravid is thinking here. He wants to break this partnership and he like AA's cahnces... AA has been trying to set MJ up for the slower ball.

    By Blogger Jiet, at 23:33

  • why is this Blog so quiet today? Are others in anyother thread?

    By Blogger FineLeg, at 23:34

  • hardly any crowd to watch the Paki test

    By Blogger Tiger, at 23:34

  • wat did the curator do to the wicket ?? or is it just the indian bowlers who r making the ball talk .. man .. am i feeling good 2day :)

By Blogger Confused Indian Cricket Fan, at 23:34

  • please do not praise RPS - without saying touchwood etc ... we always said that about IP, ZK, AN, LB ... and loads others ... Let us wait until he plays more

One thing I agree is he does look a good prospect....hope he continues

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:34

  • Wow!!! Today is quieter in the Blogosphere than other ODI days...are folks not in theblog?

    By Blogger FineLeg, at 23:36

  • EZ lose one wicket

    SS Das c PA Patel b RB Patel 0 (25m 18b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:36

  • perhaps Dravid thinks Sri Lankans are waiting for the spinners. which brings a problem of team composition. no part-timers who bowl seam.

    By Blogger roublen, at 23:37

  • any bets on whose nose/skull Harmison is going to break today?

    By Blogger devatha, at 23:37

  • hmmm ... RD missing SG eh?

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:38

  • why IP now...IP into 7th over...all Seamers IP-AA finishing 7-8 overs each

    By Blogger FineLeg, at 23:38

  • Devatha - I hope it is no one .. i am for one rooting for PAK ... for this match

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:39

  • thanks rakesh. poor Das, man. what do you think happened to him?

    By Blogger roublen, at 23:39

  • Harmy will get some Butt for sure

    By Blogger Jiet, at 23:39

  • Guys, is the third power play on?

By Blogger S Fernando, at 23:40

  • rakesh, my lips are sealed;)

    By Blogger roublen, at 23:41

  • fern...yeah

    By Blogger Jiet, at 23:41

  • yeah

    By Blogger roublen, at 23:41

  • He was a good opener - I think the current fashion is to have 'not so quiet' openers ... Hayden and Langer and Slater and Smith started that .. I think GG is in that mould and what to say about VS?

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:41

  • I think it is time to bring on the spinners.... RP Singh with Karthik or Bhajji....

By Blogger Ruchir Joshi, at 23:41

  • shoaib mallik opening batting for pak.. i guess pakis hv specialised the art of screwing up talent .. watever happened to the lkes salman butt, yasir hameed etc ..

By Blogger Confused Indian Cricket Fan, at 23:42

  • SRT used to try some seam / swing bowling in his very early days ... is not built for it but used to bowl with seam up --- do you guys remember

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:42

  • guys on ss..are u having buffering problems in the ind vs sl feed. or is it me? thanks in advance for any response

By Blogger losing now, at 23:42

  • EZ lost two quick wickets....morning pace, SG pushed himself down...'Drop'Das Gupta is promoted.

SG did same things as capt in recent past in Tests.

    By Blogger Rajg, at 23:43

  • ganguly hiding in the dressing room.. against RB Patel.. not coming even two down..

By Blogger Thanks Chappel, at 23:43

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:43

  • i dont think the spinners r going to be introduced b4 20 overs .. makes sense .. pitch is responding to pacers now ..so extract watever life it has before it goes dead ..

By Blogger Confused Indian Cricket Fan, at 23:43

  • Maybe SRT will bowl today- just for kicks

    By Blogger suraj, at 23:43

  • where are SG fans? why is dada looking for a night watchman now?

    By Blogger Rakesh, at 23:44

  • Is Prem still busy? or is he blogging later today?

    By Blogger FineLeg, at 23:44

  • There was so much of talk regarding extras last day..and today we have already sent as many as 6 wides...pathan doing the major work...
    Whats wrong...
