IS Mahindra on Ganguly

A vote of confidence, from the board president for the ex-captain.
Mr Mahindra said at the moment the selectors did not want to tamper with a winning combination but that did not mean the doors had been shut on Ganguly. “At present nobody wants to disturb the winning combination, otherwise I don’t think there’s any problem for Sourav to return to the international team,” Mr Mahindra told a TV channel. Asked specifically if Ganguly held a chance to be a part of the team for the World Cup, he said, “Who has ruled him out? Nobody has. This is the handy work of gossipmongers who believe in sensationalism,” a press release by the channel quoted Mahindra as saying.
“He is a great player, he has also been a great captain. We are proud of him and he will definitely make a comeback to the team,” said the BCCI chief. “In my view, even the selectors have not taken any negative view on Sourav’s likely comeback,” he added.

  • If we loose next two there is a pretty good chance SG might comeback:-)

  • LOL :))..when Mahindra made this statement, I guess he wouldnt have accounted for the fact that India might be losing a match..just about the same time. Now 'no need to change winning combination' becomes old so soon :-)

  • they should have chosen a 'slogan' more durable than that ;-)

  • Down with Dravid... Bad captaincy... Placemnet of Fielders, bowling chnage... simple calculations of the best bowlers wre not in his mind...India was a tiger in from of a lame and old lion- the Sri Lnakans... bring him in front of the Africal Lion's with class.. we are sitting ducks...

Down with dravid... bring back sourav.. captaincy matters ..and should not be in the hands of pesudo intelligent withdrawn novices in a team game like cricket..The throne should be with the tigers...bring back sourav...

  • We do rotations and dropping on everyone - Why not SEHWAG?Drop Sehwag for 2 games to bring his hunger back.
Instead of Sehwag take Gautam Gambhir for opening, and replace Kaif with Raina.

  • After winning against SL, India was touted as a potential 2007 World Cup champion by many biased supporters on this site. They predicted great future under Dravid's captaincy - Venu Rao as Batsman,Sree Santh as Pacer,Murali Kartik as spinner( do you see a pattern here).
To get rid of Ganguly's influence, these guys also wanted to dump proven performers like VVS/Zahir Khan/Nehra and Ganguly himself. Well , today against SA, it was Ganguly's men like Yuvraj and Harbhajan who performed, while all the King's men surrendered(remember 39 for 5) .So for a change BCCI's Mahendra made his comments very judiciously today....

  • Watched the match live in Hyderabad. Since I reached the ground pretty early, got to see the teams practising. It was a revelation watching Harbhajan. He was taking the sessions (fielding and bowling) very very seriously. Either he is trying very hard to fit into the new scheme or he was doing a very good con job. The eternal optimist that I am, I would say that he turned a new leaf.
