Mid-Day

Anand Naik, in the Mumbai afternooner, charts the achievements of India's frontline bowlers this series.
Naik also meets former stumper Nayan Mongia, who apparently now wants to be a national selector. Ummmm!

  • If what NM says is true, quite a shady way of treating yr in-form team mate SG.
Agree with NM - every dog has his day. Unfortunately the dog called SG had not just one day, but all of 3 years to screw up the hopes of the indian cricket fans by foisting his machinations on the national team. Personal priorities preceded the playing team's. How low can one get. They should have courtmartials in sports also - for all the doping cases, matchfixing cases and for cases like this egomaniacal erstwhile captain of ours present.

  • i agree nayan should have been told the reasons he was not selected..he was the best keeper at that point of time

  • Anyone know why Mongia was kept out ? Any inside scoop ?
Its curious why this guy was kicked out without a reason.

Regardless of the reason, it was really cheap behavior on SG's part in the incident outlined in the article.

  • Yes analyzer. But the question is if SG opens his mouth on Nayan Mongia and tells you what all he has done and why he was kicked out, will you then find Mongia's attitude disgusting? Or do you only like to believe anything negative about SG? For your information, not only SG, even Sachin had issues with Mongia. I know the entire story, but don't want to get into it now.

  • Jai,

I am not supporting Mongia here - I am sure he has done something to deserve the censure of a lot of the cricketing folks ... and yes, if you divulge the details , he will certainly "earn" my disgust !

The point is - no matter what- it is kind of low to get someone to fly in to meet you and do a no-show

    I don't think anyone deserves that ?

  • I think the reason Mongia was kicked out because Tendulkar said that if Mongia is in the team, he will withdraw. Remember the go-slow tactic of Prabhakar & Mongia against WI if I'm not mistaken when we easily could have chased their total.

  • Jai:
I want to hear the story behind it. Give it to me. Unless you will get into trouble or something. Atleast some snippets.

  • couple of months back, Prem, posted Nayan Mongia and his attitude in dressing room. USed to play some politics...when Azza was captain. Did not talk to team mates....interacting more with Azza etc...Prem went into details...don't have it bookmarked.

NM is bit shady to aspire for selector job....old files will re-open.

  • I think that in that test against Pak - when SRT almost won the game for India - NM had been playing very well and very sensibly and he suddenly gave charge to Akram (of all bowlers). Didn't things go wrong from then on? Or am I mistaken?
