Overs 1-10

This has to be the most disciplined bowling India has faced in quite a while -- outside of three deliveries, one of which went for six, pretty much every ball has been on the stumps or in that corridor, and at greater pace and control than the batsmen have been used to against SA. Bowling one side of the deck, with a field drawn in tight and with fielders who thus far have been electric, has cramped India's opening overs.
Dew on the deck; slow outfield -- the former should dissipate, but I wonder if the latter factor is an indicator that the pitch, which presumably is similarly watered, will take turn later on. If yes, that puts India in a bit of a dilemma -- the sensible thing to do if more wickets fall is to rotate Gautam Gambhir in, in place of Murali Karthik, sacrificing the extra bowler; that same move though could backfire if the track actually turns and we need the extra spinner.
Of the wickets that fell, two seemed clearly unprepared for the extra yard or three of pace -- VS punched at the ball from the top of the crease without budgeting for the ball coming on to him quicker than it has during the SL series, got it high on the bat, and gave Ashley Price an opportunity for acrobatics; Kaif stood rooted to the top of the crease, in the strangest position to play a fuller length ball. SRT seemed not out, judging by the replays (strangely, the snickometer seems to have gone missing) but against that, he didn't seem exactly convincing during his stay there.

  • Full credit to SA bowling; Shiv Lal and team, they prepared a good pitch...real test for Indian batsmen...they crumbled.

  • mm, nel has a very 'colorful' history.I am surprised he has not been suspensed/fined yet for the abusive language he uses on the pitch.

  • A new conspiracy theory will be floated by all GC supporters.. that HCA made a pitch like this to ensure that VVS is brought back as the only batsman other than SRT who can play fast bowling

  • no point talkin about the sleding.......thats part of the game.

I am a litte disappointed with the current situation though. I still hold hope that Yuvi, pathan and Dhoni will take us to respectable total.
