Overs 31-40

49 in this phase, with two wickets to show for it, seems on the surface good going; the problem is, the 49 runs bled away, and the lack of tightness at the start of the innings, has brought the ask down to a level where for the Proteas it is a simple matter of batting through 50; do that, and you can not lose this game from here.
For India, besides factors mentioned above, a certain lack of initiative proving costly -- during this phase, the only time India tried to make things happen was when Bajji was brought on and the field tightened (strangely, drawn even tighter than during Bajji's first spell); the wicket fell immediately -- but was clearly too little, way too late.

  • Prem,

I may be jumping the gun too early - but isn't it exactly the same way that we used to lose the matches in the last 1 year of SG's days ...? I mean NOT forcing things to happen ... rather waiting for them to happen..!

  • india got a wake-up call.

    Positives....tail wagged little bit...able to score 250.

VS,MK were luckless as well as less prepared for SA.

YS -- good knock. Was lucky with 3-4 edges....neverthless..helped India's scorecard.

This is good test for RD-GC to rally the team from 0-1 against a decent opposition.

  • Is Pathan concentrating more on his batting than bowling?? Shoddy performance by Pathan with the ball. He completely nullified the good batting show by some poor inconsistent line while bowling. Pathan should concentrate on his bowling doubly hard than his batting. He is in the team as India's premier fast bowler and he cannot let the team down like this.

  • Was a bookie involved?

I do not want to sound like a scpetic, but there were some
    ominous signs today. Anyways,
I don't want to think more
    about it.

  • I think Pathan was targeted by the SAFicans... they made a blunder in sending Justin Ontong at 3 but Smith's quick scoring hide that fact...

India did put up a fight from a hopeless position, at 35/5 I would have been happy to reach 150... they did extremely well to reach 250...

indisciplined bowling cost us the match, at least it would have been tougher for the saficans... too many wides & noballs... besides having to sub out Mu Kar deprived us of a bowler...

One thing that I have always felt is none of our pacers are capable of restrictive bowling, they are always looking to take wickets... RP Singh is looking a promising bet in this area which is why he has to be persisted with...

Anyway a nice situation for GC-RD to try out something new and get the team back on rails...

I also feel that we have run out of surprises... :)

  • Let me first comment that it was a fighting performance, lots of positives (Yuvi,IP(batting),AA(batting/1st spell),MD(looked good on crease),HS).

I have one grouse though. Why do the captains so far seem to use super sub for the best case scenario.

Yesterday GG was super sub assuming indian would bowl 1st and sub out MK for GG.

One would think it would be better to use super sub for worst case scenario (MK being super sub ). Then even if indian had won the toss 4 bowlers on the early morning due would have been plentiful. We even had the option of bowling out AA in 1 spell and sub him out for MK. The same thing would work even when batting second is bad.
