Curtain down, for the weekend

It's been forever. Or at least, it feels like it's been forever, since I stepped into this office at about 8 am -- yesterday. Finally, I get to switch off -- and head out for a Friday evening drink (or three), some food, and a weekend of endless sleep minus the blogging.
On my way out the door, I'll leave you with this article from the archives. It talks of narrow nationalism, but its message fits just as snug onto the supercharged 'state-ism', the parochialism, that has been on display in recent days.
Actually, I'll also leave you with another link: The World Cup 2003 column archives. For two reasons: 1. Because a friend and former colleague, Krishna Prasad, joined us to front this exercise, and put together the most varied collection of columns, topics, themes and writers we've ever had for a single event; I personally believe the collection did KP, and the rest of us who worked on the site, proud and 2. Because scattered in those articles, are portents of the future that is now on us in extremely unwelcome fashion.
Have a good weekend, guys -- see you all Monday.
