Too few Tests?

The BCCI, from a purely commercial viewpoint, wants the Test calendar redrawn. This table by Rajneesh Gupta on Rediff gives you a cricketing reason why the team now ranked number two needs to play more Tests.
India, statistically, appears to have done well; but the glaring anomaly lies in the number of Tests we've played (8), vis a vis the other major nations (Australia 15, England 13, South Africa and the West Indies 11 each; Pakistan 9). Heck, 8 Tests in the year puts us on par with Zimbabwe (with whom we played three of those Tests anyways) and just marginally ahead of Bangladesh (even the minnows managed 6).
