India vs SL - 2nd ODI - Open Thread

Seems like not many people are up for this one?...or maybe the alarms are set to go off anytime now ;-)

Chalo...see you all's sleepy faces in the thread...

185 Comments:

  • Morning Worma,

Looks like the guys in the states are still sleeping. Do you know when the game starts?

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 02:53

  • saurabh ('morning mate...and I owe you a reply ;-), shri...its 9 am GMT so 10am BST and 14:30 IST

    By Blogger worma, at 02:55

  • All, we have an interesting match on hand. Atleast that is the hope. Can we forget about SG for the day. Thanks

    By Blogger Karrileaf, at 02:56

  • ravi...yes lets forget SG for today...anyways tomorrow(after selection meeting tonight) thats *all* that we're gonna talk about ;-) LOL

    By Blogger worma, at 02:57

  • neo...go into the match page at cricinfo...its listed for 9am GMT :-)

    By Blogger worma, at 02:58

  • neo..yes but click on the link from the forthcoming coverage :-)...chalo anyways...our debates here are not waiting for match start...are they ;-)

    By Blogger worma, at 03:04

  • hey...just to kick-off....RD said recently that experiments would continue.....any guesses on what's next one we can expect???

    By Blogger worma, at 03:07

  • reverse....you have sun there in swiss country??...oooh....*jealous* ;-)

btw....anyone bothered to check out the WI score against Queensland? 238/3 and Lara, Chanderpaul yet to play...hope rising again...optimism growing

    By Blogger worma, at 03:11

  • reverse yeah thats one thing we can see sometime(I dare say 3rd match;-)...but also as neo said, I'm curious to see how they use JP today...maybe its his turn...out of all the good showers in recent times (he's been ok with limited chances) he's the one least 'experimented' upon

    By Blogger worma, at 03:13

  • siddhu: add to it...ball will come nicely on to the bat...ball will be changed often

all of these seem valid to me.

    By Blogger worma, at 03:17

  • siddhu...as I posted above...WI is 238/3 against Queensland...so...should Aus now duely give a walk-over for the test series to WI?

    By Blogger worma, at 03:23

  • neo thanks for the links....interesting indeed. Maybe Gambhir can open...esp if we chase big?...(he may be supersub in that case). Although I feel that we would go with same XII

    By Blogger worma, at 03:27

  • siddhu...you missed the point...what I meant was that this is not Zim team(certainly not the one which Ind played against, although the way their stars are running away, they may soon look like this ;-)..just as the Queensland team is not Aus team(and they have quite a few main and fringe players from Aus national squad)

    By Blogger worma, at 03:29

  • neo...yep..they have to hand over team sheets at the toss (before the toss)...so a captain can change his mind about what to do on winning the toss

    By Blogger worma, at 03:34

  • neo...yeah I once commented on my take on supersub....that was kind of derived from game theory...the matter of taking risk...and taking the right decisions mid-way...or at each point of time..weighing in pros and cons..

for example...your choice of Karthik is good...a 'positive' way of using supersub (as opposed to a 'safe' way which means put the allrounder there). Since India is looking to bowl first(I assume). So we go in with 5 bowlers and batting supersub. But, in this case, if we're forced to bat first...and our batting is not really doing great...then we need to keep taking stock after each wkt fall(in fact just before) to know just the right moment when we need to get that additional batsman in. Too early would mean and we loose the extra bowler(and we rue it esp if not many wkts fall after that) and too late would mean the additional batsman would also not be able to help!..so...tough times for captain..has to be on his toes all the time...coach becomes more 'actively' important now

and btw..in this above scenario an opening batsman as supersub is not much use...since if we're forced to bat first...and if we supersub him right from the start...then that means we were relying just on the toss for our supersub strategy to work

    By Blogger worma, at 03:54

  • My take - Gambhir as super sub
    SRT
    GG (SS)
    Venu
    RD
    Sehwag
    YS
    JP
    MSD
    IP
    HS
AA (could be a wild card SS)
    MK

    By Blogger RandomThoughts, at 03:54

  • which is why...I feel...if GG plays...then he would not be a supersub.

    By Blogger worma, at 03:59

  • darn it, got up an hour early. match hasnt started!
    i was mis-led!

By Blogger Dhruv Deepak, at 04:04

  • thats right neo - Sreesant will certainly play. if GG plays then JP is out though I now think that GG will bring in the drinks

    By Blogger RandomThoughts, at 04:06

  • San Jose checking in :)

    By Blogger Boom, at 04:07

  • those watching...any signs of the toss????...

    By Blogger worma, at 04:12

  • Redmond checking in here too :-)))

Still pretty late in Redmond. Damn these D/N games ..lol.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:13

  • Is the match at 2:30 IST .. that would make it 5 AM EST .. that is another 45 minutes... please correct if I am wrong.. I am not on willow

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 04:15

  • tc: not even the pre-match 'analysis' yet?...

    By Blogger worma, at 04:15

  • I havd put an alarm of 3:30 AM ... shoot could have sept anouter one hour

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 04:16

  • glad to see the Super-subs have created the much needed interest in the ODI's :-)

Wasn't the game supposed to have started at 9 GMT? Or is Dalmiya stuck in a traffic jam....

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 04:16

  • willow has started some music. :-) but still not sure if there are 15 minutes or 45 minutes to go.

By Blogger Jaunty Quicksand, at 04:17

  • pankaj...you're right...its 14:30 IST...so still 43 mins in my clock

    By Blogger worma, at 04:17

  • saurabh...its 9GMT...so 10BST...still 40+ minutes to go..no?..I hope you havent moved to winter time by yourself ;-)

    By Blogger worma, at 04:19

  • good that this early in day .. can find devils around :)
Cricket was always big in desh

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 04:19

  • Willow's website claims it starts in 12 minutes. Cricinfo claims it starts in 42 minutes I am guessing willow is going to show a "pitch analysis" and the pregame stuff first.

saurabh, yes, isn't it amazing how an experiment doomed for failure after the natwest thingy is now the rage in discussions around the place...

By Blogger Jaunty Quicksand, at 04:19

  • No Borndevil - watching some stupid show on Sony TV [using sportingstreams].

Note guys: 4545 is working, so if you cant' get on 545, try that.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:20

  • Where on earth does willow dig up this music from???!!

By Blogger Jaunty Quicksand, at 04:21

  • OK.. I am gonna make fresh masala tea .. any takers ??

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 04:22

  • Worma, I am in Italy today, so lost my sense of "Britishness". Feeling positive about life already :-)

Actually, I could never figure out when GMT/BST go different...

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 04:22

  • this is not good.. will have to miss Indian batting part of match ... but anyway form history . that should be good for team .. thus cant complain

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 04:26

  • TC sorry .. I am more selfish :)

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 04:27

  • saurabh LOL...yep you can easily forget the gloom of Eng...esp out there in South :-)...small lesson on time zones coming up...apologies in advance folks ;-)...GMT is the standard time..so it *doesnt change* either in winter or summer...BST is, like rest of Europe, moving back and forth. So BST=GMT+1 in summer and BST=GMT in winter. (and time changes on last Sunday of Oct)

    By Blogger worma, at 04:27

  • Has the match started? Willow TV now gives the time as 2 AM PDT [5 AM EDT].

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:29

  • India won the toss as per Cricinfo

    By Blogger Karrileaf, at 04:31

  • no chappel, India would have loved to bat first today...

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 04:31

  • Cricinfo is still on 'preview'...
    I just checked it now.

Wondering if there are different versions of cricinfo :-P

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:32

  • Go to the Live scorecard

    By Blogger Karrileaf, at 04:33

  • Hehe..yeah stupid Sony TV is on and its driving me nuts.

Two blokes bandying about wearing doctor's coats and looking like carpenters in overalls instead.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:34

  • Neo - you are indeed the one.

    Thanks pal.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:35

  • If Sony TV's bitchy programming is driving you nuts - hit 555

Or hit the programme coordinator if you can.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:36

  • Lol@losing now

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:37

  • k-slice, looks like you did better than dada in that case :-)

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 04:38

  • Sounds like the match might be coming on guys....on SS

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:38

  • Nope...Phony TV does it again...

Changed the accents...and now there's a chapathi ad on.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:40

  • Dew or not...this is where the character of our guys chasing, will come to the fore. Lets keep our fingers and toes crossed guys -that Nagpur wasn't just a stroke of luck.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:41

  • Phony TV is still showing the liquid soap. Dude in a canary yellow shirt...and chappie in dire need of a shave are on screen. We are taking donations to buy new shirt and new 7 o clock ejtec razor blades....

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:43

  • Hold your horses guys - relatively lookable chick on screen now...

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:44

  • Nope - spoke too soon. Camera zoomed in kind of close and I change my mind...

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:44

  • Pretty boy in canary yellow shirt is now at sleeveless aunty's house. Sleeveless aunty trying some histrionics...failing miserably.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:45

  • k-slice - alcohol and the light switch should work just as well as the brown paper bag :-))

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:47

  • I hear now Junior NTR is right up there with the lipstick business...

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:48

  • Willow is playing "Another one bites the dust". :-)

By Blogger Jaunty Quicksand, at 04:49

  • I just wish canary yellow shirt chappie would change his freakin shirt....

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:49

  • Losing now - I know. LOL - notice the confused expression on his face? Its called Method acting....

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:50

  • Sreesanth is Supersub

    By Blogger Kansultant, at 04:51

  • Yeah I apologise to guys waiting for cricket - just that we're going out of minds with the programming on Sony TV. Back to today's match.

Should Sehwag drop down the order?

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:51

  • Lol@losing now.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 04:53

  • hmm... with India bowling ... AA is gonna open I gues.. JP yadav will get ot bowl some...
I doubt if we end up using SS atall unless AA does what he is good in doing ...giving runs, but may still not replaced.. wonder why we make SSanth as SS....

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 04:54

  • greg .. if you bowl one guy out .. why do you want to get sree in :)

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 04:56

  • Aaargh...when will shastri actually ASK a question?

By Blogger Jaunty Quicksand, at 05:00

  • JAYASURIYA OUT!!!!!!!!!

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:05

  • RS ,
I dont think SS will replace AA by even if he plays from Srilanka , as the traditional Indian wisdom .. AA as batsman ..
    good start ..
    one down

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:05

  • I agree with Sahir.. if you play 5 bowlers .. why have bowler as SS

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:07

  • AA moving the ball

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:07

  • 2 good balls from Agarkar. 4/6 ball coming up...

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:07

  • Prem,

Am I reading the Stats wrong, or has the Team batting first at Mohali won 5 of the 7 games?

In that case, why bowl first?

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 05:10

  • Sangakarra starts ..
I agree with dravid on making the decision based on the recent performance rather traditional and stats wisdom..

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:13

  • dohoni .. NOOOOO

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:13

  • I knew Agarkar wouldn't 'let' me down - 4 ball right away...

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:14

  • AA ready to compensate for his last

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:15

  • Fernando's commentary leaves me wishing for a noose and a convenient ceiling beam...

["Sri Lanka will be looking to score as many runs as possible"]

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:16

  • Attapatu .. gettng some balls on his bat now

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:17

  • I shouldnt have saif that about attapatu ..

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:18

  • Prem - maybe a reversal of roles since India's last series in SL? :-))

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:19

  • It looked liked Dravid and Tendulkar planned the slower ball with AA.

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 05:19

  • I need Ks now.. We wont need the SS in that case ..

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:20

  • prem..in fact even in SL their batting was never in place...we didnt exploit it well. Even against WI and Bdesh the SL batting has been bad throughout the season....lets see how it goes by the time test matches start

    By Blogger worma, at 05:23

  • Parthiv is too short...the ball would have been yards away from him.

Prem - I hear ya.However we seem to have been slipping even at home the last season :-((

Meanwhile, AA is back in form.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:25

  • I need a bio break... should i wait for Sanga to get out..

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:26

  • AA decides: Well I gave away a 4 on the last ball..lets try it again..and see what happens.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:27

  • 2 balls on LS .. AA cmmon

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:27

  • Why only SG? What about Nehra, VVS and the likes..

[I heard that Nehra wanted a fast motorized wheelchair - so that he didn't have to exactly RUN down the pitch - he could just do his run up on the wheelchair]

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:29

  • KS 18 of 20 cant let this guy bat..

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:29

  • jagat: Go to sgstream and search for "Mohali" under events..

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:29

  • @jagat
Search fro Mohali or chandigarh .. in priority as named

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:30

  • MJ OUT!!

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:32

  • Thx pathan

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:32

  • but i want KS

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:33

  • what's more heartening - THE MID WICKET HUDDLE IS BACK...GO TEAM INDIA..

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:33

  • Jagat you're welcome.

Guys India is 1 up and SL is 33-3.

Is it jut me or are the winds of change just starting to swirl a little... :-))

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:35

  • ChennaiOnline commentary - chaps it is paTHan not paTan. harBHajan not harBajan. KHan not Kan.

    Arrgh.

    By Blogger i, at 05:37

  • Prem,
here is the quick look at the only other Mohali game during winter:
    Nov 3, 1996: Ind(289) defeated Aus (284). Kumble 3/43 in 10.

    By Blogger Raju, at 05:38

  • Wasn't that OUT?

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:38

  • BD,
Jagat is usign SG not SS ,noth as of now are working good.
    close call...Sehwag trying to convince..

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:39

  • KS needs to be taken out now. That will complete this earlly morning wake up for me..

    By Blogger Crick_Love, at 05:41

  • jiet LOL..they have already done that...you just don't know yet ;-)

    By Blogger worma, at 05:42

  • Dark nights, the "richest" board in the world does not leave enough money for the "poor" TV companies to invest in technologies like Hawkeye, etc.

besides, it adds to our viewing pleasure, so why bother. after all, we arn't the real stakeholders here, or are we?

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 05:43

  • Who will be first bowling change ?
    JP/HS/MK ??

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:44

  • cricket trivia:

Does anyone know why 111 is considered an unlucky score by the batting team?

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 05:45

  • Sangakkara wrist work was like VVS Laxman working the ball to the leg side. Damn he is good.

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 05:46

  • jiet...that is a part of the plan of those machines ;-)...ok I stop

    By Blogger worma, at 05:46

  • Ks is not scared to Pull/hook ..
    good to see this

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 05:48

  • ... and DHoni not Doni, you ChennaiOnline Commentators. Start aspirating you idiots

    By Blogger i, at 05:48

  • sahir...yeah atleast one slip can still be maintained for KS

    By Blogger worma, at 05:53

  • prem...is it Madugale ??(LOL...just guessing, not watching)

    By Blogger worma, at 05:54

  • The only feed on internet so far (I mean free) is the replays I have watched in the ddnews channel. Dhoni's catch looked good - low and in front of slip. Any other site?

    By Blogger Crick_Love, at 05:55

  • LOL....and 'generic Lankan commentators' :-))..yeah they all 'idolise' Madugale, I've noticed :-)....its like an young batsman aspiring to be a Devang Gandhi or some such :-)

    By Blogger worma, at 05:59

  • SANGAKKARA OUT!!!!

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 05:59

  • Prem,

guess we all got used to Ritchie Benaud's over the summar, so all these commentators sound horrible.

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 06:00

  • why did Ssanth get up at KS dismissal .. Bechaara , thought .. no more chances for him to get replaced.. :(

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 06:00

  • OMG!!! DILSHAN OUT!!

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 06:01

  • Prasad/Reverse Sweep - My pronunciation of Tamil names is far better. At least none of the Tam's I knew at Uni complained.

Anyway, these ChennaiOnline chaps are overexcited over paTan now.

    SL ki to lag gayi.

    By Blogger i, at 06:02

  • yacrik, Pathan is already MOS :-)

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 06:02

  • Actually, I don;t mind Manjarekar's commentary. Only Guy who seems to talk sense...

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 06:03

  • prem...LOL :-)..atleast we dont have siddhu aspirants in India..so why was KS out?..did it bounce extra..or did it move away a bit?

    By Blogger worma, at 06:05

  • Yacrik, I suppose if RD farts on the fields its part of some brilliant captaincy move? Tusi badi penetrating analysis karte ho.

    Jai ho.

    By Blogger i, at 06:06

  • Sanjay Manjrekar is the most boring commentator on the planet...guy puts me to sleep.

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 06:06

  • Some critics were saying Pathan couldn't swing the ball in the subcontinent. Take that.

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 06:06

  • saurabh..frankly, to me, many ndian commentators seem to talk sense...Manj, Sahstri, Sunny, Harsha, Arun Lal....its just that some of them keep talking to fill in the pauses

    By Blogger worma, at 06:07

  • UGH!! AA must think the stumps are at 2nd slip or something...

By Blogger FSN 3.0, at 06:08

  • I love these ChennaiOnline chaps, they are so unabashedly one-sided. Its lovely to hear some nice plain old fashioned jingoism. I am fed up of people who sit there and applaud a good shot by a Sri Lankan. Fact of the matter is the only good shot a non-Indian can play is the one that gets him out.

    By Blogger i, at 06:09

  • prem..yeah that looked like a shot for slow low pitches...so their batting is also suited for home :-)...although IMO KS has all the good shots also...just that its probably become a bad habit for him

    By Blogger worma, at 06:09

  • shri...yeah got it(about KS shot)..although pull is played from on or outside off..but maybe bounce did him in

    By Blogger worma, at 06:11

  • Tiger, what "new" things will you see/learn about local history, being an Indian yourself. The same beggars, the same non-performing municipality, the same pot-holed roads. The same, the same.

    By Blogger i, at 06:12

  • RD always had great body language. One of the most straight-backed chaps in recent memory.

    By Blogger i, at 06:13

  • prem...doesnt this make you look forward to the test matches all the more :-)...the only pony they have is Murali....and although we have played him well in the past(tests)...its been a while. Other than that, cant see a single reason for us not bagging a comfortable win.

    By Blogger worma, at 06:14

  • RDs best for me was when he stared down Donal Duck in SA.

    By Blogger i, at 06:15

  • jiet: spot on with your comment...the (better) Indian commentators are still bad because they don't 'converse' in English...but thats a native language issue isn't it? We see that in all walks of life

    By Blogger worma, at 06:15

  • prem...I hope by boring you mean boringly easy :-)...but I know what you mean. And even for Ind-Pak to be interesting would depend on their recent showing against Eng. If they are routed badly...I dont think they would be able to rise soon enough. The historical 'extra punch' that Pak players used to reserve for Indian matches is also gone in recent times (and whether that was our Pak tour or even their tour of India)

    By Blogger worma, at 06:17

  • Tiger - personally because they are in Chandigarh I had rather see the Punjabi bimbettes. They are pretty hot before they get married and start going hot and heavy on the chikkan tikkas. Then they look like something that would need several Kms of yarn to get dressed.

    By Blogger i, at 06:19

  • He missed the Powerplay. The bowler should have helped the captain out here. Too bad

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 06:20

  • yep...if they win even one match against Eng that should do them good. And moreover the confidence level is more about the manner in which they win (as in India...they actually saved the series by winning the last match...yet they went on high). So lets see...

And about our ability to muck up ..without going into personalities (;-)...thats happened quite infrequently in test matches

    By Blogger worma, at 06:22

  • jiet you mean they *can* be subtle?...and speak in eng as in their native language? converse without being conscious? I dont think so....esp not for those who live in India for most part (even if they are in multinationals...or in show biz like these etc)

    By Blogger worma, at 06:26

  • Prem, talking of Tests, what do you recon are WI's chances down-under?

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 06:27

  • Prasad - Indian fans need secondary fans who would put them in the hot seat. That will teach 'em. Bloody bunch of short-sighted, lame-brained, over-excitable, fat-arsed, under-educated, loud-mouthed, thankless bunch of loonies.

I really hope they don't get on to RD as they did for SG. Probably not as RD plays things close to his chest.

    By Blogger i, at 06:27

  • prem LOL :-))...yeah thats kind of bad thought for a morning ROFL :-)..wonder if we can watch another match at b'lore ;-)

tiger to your earlier point...sure Pak played decently against us....I was just talking about that extra bit they put in in matches against India...if you remember from 90s (thats what I remember actually ;-)

    By Blogger worma, at 06:28

  • so, prospects of losing his place, forcing Yadav bowl two good overs.

    By Blogger krishjapan, at 06:30

  • shri...no I dont think it will depend on who is captain (as long as all players are good and in form)..we had a horrid last home match (B'lore) but that whole fiasco was more than captaincy thing

    By Blogger worma, at 06:30

  • u think? I recon WI might sneak a win if they apply themselves. On paper, their batting is pretty good and their bowling is not too bad either.

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 06:30

  • As an archetypical Indian fan, I put forward Thanks-Charlie-Chaplin. Go on flame me, I got my bucket of sand all ready.

    By Blogger i, at 06:31

  • nice delivery, HSseems so good now

    By Blogger Toney, at 06:31

  • prem...the WI prospects are zero...but I think if they can 'time' their good show with the bat with that one 'collapse' which Aus team is likely to have...then they have *some* chance. Tough ask I know...ยจ

    By Blogger worma, at 06:32

  • By the way, hope the wicket is not uneven bounce or two paced, etc., and the lions got out to poor shot selection.

    By Blogger krishjapan, at 06:32

  • Bhajji, beautifully flighted, drifting in and turning away. Awesome! Great field setting by RD.

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 06:33

  • If at all WI r going to win a test there, it must be a dead rubber test!!

    By Blogger krishjapan, at 06:33

  • prem..are you following the WI warm-up match against Queensland? Shaping well for them..

    By Blogger worma, at 06:34

  • No Yacrick, Dravid is not the best fielder at slips. It has to be Freddie. In fact, he is the best bastman, bowler, fielder in the world today.

And as Prem pointed out yesterday, he writes pretty well too :-)

Before I get the 'hate mail', I hope you guys don't miss the sarcasm...

By Blogger Saurabh Wahi, at 06:35

  • I always beleived Indian cricketers( for that matter we all Indians) need a tough ring master. then we perform to our potential, whats your take prem?

    By Blogger krishjapan, at 06:35

  • Thats prem, (your comment on ravi ahstri..). We simply get struck with this bogg, just for this. Thanks!

    By Blogger krishjapan, at 06:37

  • Prasad - to me the difference between SG and RD's style is somewhat similar to the difference between the axe-wielding, long-haired warrior and the clinical, dead-eyed assassin. Both are captivating to watch. But the former is ****ing good in times of victory, while the latter escapes detection in time of loss.

    By Blogger i, at 06:39

  • righto Prem :-)...ok for your benefit....WI got Queensland allout for 323 with none of their batsmen (Love, Maher, Hayden, Symonds, Watson) doing much more than 50+..Powell got their top order..including Hayden at 0. And now, WI are 252/3 with Smith making 115(he's going to be the opener since Hinds is injured) and Chanderpaul, Lara to bat tomorrow.

    By Blogger worma, at 06:39

  • Great again!

    By Blogger krishjapan, at 06:41

  • Ajit Agarkar has earned his place today. Phenomenally quick throw. Great stuff.

Who was Dravid yelling at the previous ball, for their slow response at mid off (for Vaas)

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 06:41

  • so much for everyone's dew related concerns...

    By Blogger Toney, at 06:42

  • yes, who was Dravid yelling that previous ball. Thise who r watching, please tell

    By Blogger krishjapan, at 06:43

  • SL getting 100 anyone?

Anyone got Ranjit Fernando on air? I wonder what excuses he is concocting today

    By Blogger i, at 06:44

  • yeah and then WI has the ingredients to do well also. Good bunch of young pacers...batting lineup much better than many higher ranked sides...just a matter of getting it together.

    By Blogger worma, at 06:44

  • Why thank you reverse-sweep. No Prem, all hate. Welcome to the dark side.

    By Blogger i, at 06:48

  • prem...interesting point..about cyclical theory...hmm...probably WI long-term batting is a concern...guys like Samuels, Sarvan etc need to move up a step before Lara goes

..and then some teams just run on straight lines...with minor blips up or down ;-)

    By Blogger worma, at 06:49

  • reverse: ofcourse the biggest challenge for WI is from within only. If they get the discipline of Eng team...they can also reach somewhere close

    By Blogger worma, at 06:51

  • Prasad, I don't care who captain's India as long as they win. Not just win, trample, pulverize the opposition. Make 'em shit in their pants - so much so that all of them opt for yellow pyjamas. But damn, I hate this chappal. Overbearing, obnoxious, double talking ass with itching typing fingers. He gives me bad vibes, dude.

    By Blogger i, at 06:52

  • JP Yadav can swing the ball, even when it is 24 overs old. An outswinger that too. Not bad, not bad.

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 06:52

  • harsha...Samuels in playing in the warm-up and is almost sure shot selection for T1 (I would think?)..infact their batting lineup in this match should go in first test unchanged. And he's batting on 20 n.o.

    By Blogger worma, at 06:53

  • We missed Gautam Gambhir at short leg. How did Rao drop that?

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 06:54

  • Rao drops a sitter..man..can he do something right?

    By Blogger Crick_Love, at 06:56

  • Harsha it is simple to get SG in. Drop this Rao, just like he dropped this catch.

    By Blogger i, at 06:56

  • Prem, what is this about Gujarat being offered three ODIs in the same series (happened in the series vs WI too) while no match for south..

    By Blogger Raju, at 06:58

  • Tiger/R.Sweep, if what you say is true, I should stop watching them play. If it needs one of the Queens subjects to get Indians to work hard when playing for India, I had rather not watch this pathetic bunch. It is just sad.

    By Blogger i, at 06:59

  • Don't be too critical of poor Rao, I am sure he'll make amends with the bat later today, if pushed up the order.

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 07:00

  • Prasad, I don't like what you just said. It should have been, "RD giving the steely RD look that Waugh anticipated and borrowed without paying for any rights."

    By Blogger i, at 07:02

  • Selectors have a tough job with Ganguly. Like Prem said, I'll leave it to the selectors too. This is not an easy one, I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. Sourav is a great ODI player, but what do we do with him?

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 07:03

  • Tiger, I am not sure I want to believe that. We have examples like ST, RD, MK, IKP...

    By Blogger i, at 07:04

  • Two slips for Karthik. Nice

    By Blogger nish_the_dish, at 07:07

  • Prasad, When I look at Chappal, I see a lot of foreign currency being spent on expensive footwear, which I am not convinced is required. And then the footwear starts acting as if it is doing us a favour.

    By Blogger i, at 07:08

  • Reverse-Sweep, I don't particularly care if the coach is foreign, what I care is about a Queen's subject having to motivate my team to play. The tricolour should be motivation enough.

    By Blogger i, at 07:11

  • Prem, my reasoning for SS as supersub chosen by Dravid would be on a bit of mathematical (rather statistical) thinking..

Purely statistically, I would have expected Dravid to lose the toss (I know, the fate of toss in this match is independent of the previous, but thats what statistics is). He would have to bat first and in that case, SS as super-sub makes sense. A pacer in the second innings would help any struggling spinner.

Rajesh in cricinfo is right saying that one should choose supersub assuming the toss would be in favor.. but blend it with stats (As he said that the world XI would win the onedayers in superseries), you get a different picture.

    By Blogger Raju, at 07:13

  • why dont have pathan finish what ihe has left. are Indians planning to bowl 50 overs or what ?

By Blogger Pankaj Tripathi, at 07:16

  • Tiger - The money spent on samosas and chai-paani stays home. Dig?

    By Blogger i, at 07:17

  • guys...new thread for the remaining match....move there
