  • This is better than DG

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:08

  • if anyone cares to listen, the discussion group thing is too damn heavy and slow. i try to post to it there are already 2 more replies and it asks me if i want to review ... i say 'post' again and there are again 4 more replies and i get caught in a vicious circle ... granted my internet conncection is not the best .. but im not exactly on dialup either ... plz cud someone look into this ? is there any way one could get past this 'x replies have been posted while u were reading. Do you wish to review ?' business ????

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 02:08

  • Let GG open today

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:10

  • is anyne else not bothered by the same problem of getting posts thru on the dg ? either get rid of the 'you may need to review your post' thing or shift it here for GOds sake

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 02:11

  • prem....am totally confused :)...people are pitching for both forums :))...dunno how to resolve

    By Blogger worma, at 02:11

  • VS is captain .. he will not give up his place ..

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:12

  • DG spawns off multiple threads .. we can't follow all the comments

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:12

  • v menon, gk and others...ofcourse the DG is an experiment...but how would we know the problems unless we use it....ofcourse we would need to list down the issues and arjun can work on them....so please bear with it for now

    By Blogger worma, at 02:12

  • Here here here hear

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:13

  • worma,
I thought most of us comfort using the blog than DG.

    By Blogger Balamurali, at 02:13

  • i repeat - if we are to be on the DG pleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaasssssssssse get rid of the 'review post' otherwise im not able to post a single post

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 02:13

  • ok we are staying here sorry for the confusion....but finally we stay put....and those rooting for DG...we can decide after the match...we can atleast bear for one more innings...and then decide? cool?

    By Blogger worma, at 02:15

  • ok .. now that DG is is out of way .. let's talk some cricket

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:16

  • so we are here !!!

    By Blogger ரிஷி, at 02:17

  • great !!! so now what are the odds on SRT scoring #39 today ? or at least 80+ not out ?

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 02:18

  • I think we should have -
    GG
    VS
    MD
    SRT
    YS
    MK
    IP
    .. whoever

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:18

  • thanks Prem!!

    So who will open today?
    ST/VS or SG/GG?

    By Blogger ரிஷி, at 02:18

  • prem, any idea why ppl get blocked and who might be behind it ?

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 02:19

  • ashvin LOL :)....ok no experimentation...lets not get cocky ;)

me outta here for some while atleast...damn..I'm late!

    By Blogger worma, at 02:20

  • Prem,
Good to hear about that rediff interface. Please ask your guys to keep it simple. If it can refresh itself (like cricbuzz does) that will be better. May be things like AJAX+Javascript may help in that.

    By Blogger Balamurali, at 02:20

  • Guys watching/listening ... how is pitch holding up ? Help for spinners ?

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:22

  • Prem,
If a chat interface could be set up when you do the Rediff thing, will be great

    By Blogger Neelan, at 02:22

  • rahul ..
Why bring up YS at 3 ?
    More chances ?

Why not bring in MD, and reduce target ?

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:24

  • ashvin,

I think if it is chance thing then let SRT come in the end, let others - YS, SSR, .. and don't forget MK - strong candidate for #3

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:25

  • exposed? it's the 6th odi. the indians have hade enough of a look-see...
i dont know how you over-expose a bowler like murali anyway

By Blogger Dhruv Deepak, at 02:25

  • rahul ..
5 matches gone, we are still watching him ..

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:29

  • When are we starting the play ?

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:34

  • yacrik,
That is awesome ! Time to forget ZK

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:35

  • neo,
I wonder why YS needs to be up there, he has failed time and again at #3

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:38

  • neo,
Sure .. and since Murali is not around, he got a good chance

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:41

  • ST with GG to Open.

    By Blogger ரிஷி, at 02:47

  • SRT and GG ?? VS is tired ? :-)

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:47

  • Okay GG & SRT to open. :)

By Blogger The Random Rambler, at 02:47

  • Yacrick - having a bad day mate, eh ?

By Blogger The Random Rambler, at 02:48

  • four!

    By Blogger ரிஷி, at 02:49

  • oh yeah SRT to open - expect an 80 not out today if not hundred #39

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 02:50

  • GG is rushing to get his runs in before SRT starts

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:51

  • what ppl are forgetting is throughtout this series extras have been relatively less - i was at the stadium in pune and i noted we hardly bowled a no-ball - corect me if im wrong but we bowled zero - it is indeed creditable

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 02:52

  • i agree with fangorn entirely - harbhajan seems to have dilshan under control

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 02:54

  • Shri
All that are out there :-)

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 02:56

  • vick, yes

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 02:59

  • deepak, agree

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 02:59

  • in fact, I'd prefer there be *no* fielding restrictions in one dayers, besides the basics (i.e. no bodyline fields, etc.) I think getting rid of the fielding restrictions would provide more scope for variety, different strategies, and make the game much less predictable and more interesting.

really love gambhir's attitude and shot-selection. read gavaskar's column about how Gambhir developed his game from the year 2000?

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:07

  • Vick - common on man, let us acknowledge that RD is the best guy to lead right now and SG doesn't deserve to be in the team and trust me I have supported Ganguly more than anyone on this forum. ;)

Also have a blog for Ganguly bashers - dont-hate-ganguly.blogspot.com

By Blogger The Random Rambler, at 03:09

  • here

    http://in.sports.yahoo.com/cricket/gavaskar14.html

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:10

  • GG is awsome .. keeping RR above 6 with no apparent risky shots

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:13

  • RD .. sheet anchor ? The guy who scores at the rate of 100+ ?
    Come on ..

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:16

  • Criclover - Please..no more SRT Bhakti here. If the guy is struggling, we claim that he is playing the anchor role..Please I dont want to listen to another Tendulkar story of how he was guiding Gambhir and blah blah blah ..

Anyways superb 4 by him ;)

By Blogger The Random Rambler, at 03:19

  • oracle
Struggling ?? He is middling all the balls he is playing.
Taking apropriate singles to get GG strike ... no one calls that struggling ..

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:20

  • gambhir reminds me of michael slater. re: how solid he is, he doesn't look particularly solid, does he? In terms of timing the ball, hand-eye coordination etc. he might not have as much talent as some other players. But he backs himself, looks to attack the short ball, is a 100% team player (even in the Challengers), and so far has been exactly what team India needs in a batsman

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:20

  • damn

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:21

  • oh oh GG out !!

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:22

  • RRR is under 4 .. what's the hurry GG ?

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:23

  • >>>Kale said :- oracle
Struggling ?? He is middling all the balls he is playing.<<<

Kale bhai - so far a strike rate of 47 doesn't suggest that he middling the ball well and giving Gambhir enough strike. The fact is that end of the 7th over both he and GG had played 23 balls each...hardly seem like giving strike to GG.

By Blogger The Random Rambler, at 03:23

  • shri,
i dont think SG shud be captain for tests either - as a player id considr him but defnitely not as captain

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:24

  • VS it is .. good !! I am glad YS didn't come in

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:24

  • guz, rest assured we are going to see a not out 80 or 100 from SRT today

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:25

  • you think the lack of attention to first-class cricket is one reason selection disputes are so bitter? I'm a fan of Laxman, for example, as a player and a person, and if I could see Laxman playing high-quality domestic one-day cricket in pajama uniforms, then maybe I wouldn't have to whine and cry so much because he isn't in the national squad.

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:26

  • PREM, Can we please ignore this SG stuff for now.. I request you to ignore any SG query you get from people.

By Blogger The Random Rambler, at 03:27

  • struggling for form SRT .. that strike rate is not good .. !!

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:28

  • achin, just my reaction to seeing him play. agree that Gambhir's performance so far has been very good, and as long as he keeps delivering, it's a moot point how much "talent" he has.

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:30

  • shri
i will leave you enjoying ur dreamy thoughts for now

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:31

  • shri
we will talk abt that after the south africa series ok ?

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:33

  • OMG SRT out !! my predictions bomb !!

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:34

  • BTW Duleep trophy final is Nov 12-16. any chance BCCI will market it properly? heh.

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:35

  • Kale - Is he still middling the ball ??

By Blogger The Random Rambler, at 03:35

  • :-)
He middled when he hit it ...

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:36

  • anybody care to explain how srt got out ?? .. im in office here

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:36

  • talk abt SGs place in the test side , shri after the south africa series

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:37

  • gk, slower ball, hit it in the air to mid-off

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:38

  • siddhu: SL bowlers took 2 wkts already .. no respect ..

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:38

  • midon I should say

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:39

  • prem
i always suspected that wud happen sometime dilhara has an excellent slower one and it was a wonder he didnt trick any of the attacking batsmen with it earlier

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:39

  • prem, any opinion on lasith malinga, and why Sri Lanka hasn't picked him, even after all their other bowlers were getting thrashed?

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:40

  • Mahroof should retire now .. even MK is hitting 4s ..

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:40

  • siddhu: that is the home advantage :-)

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:43

  • "Ladies"

As far as I can remember on this blog, it's "lady", not "ladies".

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:43

  • latest score plz

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:43

  • shri
i know. i mean let us concentrate on odis for now and worry abt test team later ... geez to u

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 03:45

  • yeah, prem, have to see if Malinga plays in the tests. I just think if you're playing against India, you have to play your fastest bowlers. Not that Indian batsman can't play pace, but if they have a weakness, that's it. To some extent, I think Sri Lanka has been stuck in the past, trying to recreate their 1996 team, with lots of allrounders/slow bowlers, etc.

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:48

  • All this Ganguly talk is putting me off..I am logging off now. It is really boring now.

See you all during the Final ODI. Hope India wins this one easily.

By Blogger The Random Rambler, at 03:49

  • There are so many extras in SL .. bad bad bad ..
Look at standards .. how can a team give away so many of them..

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:49

  • siddhu: that was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek comment .. since there had been a discussion about extras in Indian innings

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:52

  • on a sad note guys,

Former Pres KR Narayanan passed away. my condolences.

    By Blogger Neelan, at 03:55

  • I don't mind Ganguly supporters, he's a great player, is miles better than Kaif & Yuvraj at this point in tests, and if he can regain his batting form, he should be in the oneday squad, IMO, mainly because he's one of the few 5th bowlers who provide a medium pace option.

But this "most successful captain" crap really bugs me. We got thrashed by Australia at home, failed to beat a weak Pakistan team at home, the results have been atrocious for the past year and counting. Ganguly should have been sacked after the Pakistan debacle. He kept the captaincy only because of politics.

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03:58

  • Jayasuriya is not fit yet. And suddenly he is the main spinner. With such a low target, batsmen will score merrily.

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 03:58

  • sehwag supposed to play cautiously and come back to form?...reverse sweeping from front of stumps :-)....Prem are you around or dozed off?

    By Blogger worma, at 04:00

  • hi everyone..

    By Blogger Girish, at 04:04

  • coolguy, we've just given captaincy to RSD and it's only 4 matches since..

IMHO, grooming Sehwag for captaincy doesn't arises now..

    By Blogger Girish, at 04:06

  • Prem, if Sehwag's captaincy (grooming) is not a secret then why bother giving it to RSD in the first place ???

atleast, I'd think that it will not happen for the next 2-3 years !! But then, you never know...

    By Blogger Girish, at 04:08

  • prem, what do you make of Bindra and his wild Dalmiya conspiracy theories? I think Bindra is a great guy, but he kind of loses his judgement when it comes to accusing Dalmiya.

    good ball, sehwag gone.

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 04:08

  • ahhh finally .. is YS going to come out now ?

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 04:09

  • Indians are probly taking this game lightly (which ideally they shouldn't) and letting SL off the hook...

Sensible batting should see us through - that's why we have Kaif. If you need mindless batting, Yuvraj should be walking in...

    By Blogger Girish, at 04:10

  • ok .. he got a chance ... now what ?

By Blogger Shekhar Kale, at 04:10

  • prem...comment on Sehwag's dismissal??...I feel this guy knows just one way to play spin (well)..reach the pitch of the ball....else he struggles...no?

    By Blogger worma, at 04:11

  • Yuvraj is wasting his time and others - It would have been better to drop him than Rao/Yadav...

    By Blogger Girish, at 04:15

  • achin, why are you here mate? I'm sure you can do better than this?...ahh well...not all people have a life (not even a virtual one)..rightto

    By Blogger worma, at 04:16

  • I don't understand this. I barely get enough time to follow 1 out of 10 comments here and people actually have the time to post abuses every few minutes!! Why would ANYONE come to a blog when he/she doesn't like the blogger's views? I mean, who has that kind of time on his hands?

By Blogger Rahul Tyagi, at 04:16

  • whew ! im back and looks like we might have a game on our hands !!

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 04:16

  • prem...yeah VS is causing some worries...earlier I thought its totally independent of his test game...but now I'm not so sure....even in the Zim test he did the same...lets wait and see how he fares in the SL tests..maybe that will help him get his ODI game back as well :-)

    By Blogger worma, at 04:18

  • hmmm i wish we get to see another kaif and yuvi show !! come on guys !

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 04:18

  • coolguy: Looking better to get out ? I'd surprised if he scores...He seems to throw it away so casually...Absolutely, no application whatsoever !

    By Blogger Girish, at 04:20

  • VS odi troubles are a real mystery and agrowing worry. good to see YS looking better

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 04:21

  • prem...yeah maybe...although in the middle of this he still manages to get his act pretty well together...liket that Zim finals...or recently in super test he was best amongst the lot (ok rest were not great :-). But I have a feeling he would sort it out in tests, and that would help his game in ODIs as well...weird..I know...but looks likely

shri: well VS (and even SRT) can play anywhere...and be good at it...point is where would the team get max value out of him (and the rest)..so if someone like GG (or SG of old) can claim that spot...sure move VS down...but if GG is not giving you as many match winning knocks from the top (esp when set) then its a wasted slot

    By Blogger worma, at 04:24

  • yeda: no I dont think dropping VS would help...he would probably do well with the team...maybe rest for a game or two..but should be close with the team

    By Blogger worma, at 04:26

  • ..and now if only Yuv can stay focussed...I would be happy to get something out of this match as well :-) (ok..besides the bowling of RP...umm..also captaincy of VS...uhh..maybe karthik's bowling as well)

    By Blogger worma, at 04:28

  • go yuvraj !! excellent start by yuvi

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 04:28

  • see what I mean about talent and hand eye coordination? sachin, sehwag, yuvraj are on a different level in terms of ball-striking (no licking, achin!) But gambhir has a great attitude, works hard on his backfoot technique, etc. Sehwag looked great while he was there, IMO. it may be a shot selection thing, getting too cute with paddles and flicks, rather than hitting through the line.

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 04:28

  • so if India win this one, Prem...then you see JP coming in for VS in the last one? Or would the lure of getting a big one for VS before SA be too much?

    By Blogger worma, at 04:29

  • yeah Kaif's comeback too :-)...am happy that this guy is getting a good long time in the middle during one of his good patches...some of those had to be wasted in the cold storage down the order, ofcourse for the sake of team balance

    By Blogger worma, at 04:30

  • People....Will this be counted as a failure for VS or will Strike Rate and averages be brought into the equation...Anything to keep SG out seems to be the motto ;)
Not wanting to start another bout of comments anti/pro SG...but...things have not been fair...injured people with no FC match come in...with only one FC match with a total score not exceeding 60 come in...and someone with 130 runs and wickets to boot is kept out...all is fair in Indian Cricket

    By Blogger RR, at 04:30

  • Achin: Your life is amusing to us and must be disgusting to you. You spend the whole day on the Blog trying to be sick to yourself and others. Unfortunately has Zilch impact on our life. Enjoy your rock and roll in mud.

    By Blogger Karrileaf, at 04:31

  • Prem, I M attending to someother sudden work and not following it. sorry, i couldnt follow u.

    By Blogger krishjapan, at 04:32

  • well said achin...bravo...I guess this is the only way you thought possible to evoke a response from posters here, right?...no, dont bother responding, not going to read or reply to you henceforth...good day :-)

    By Blogger worma, at 04:32

  • am i overreacting or is yuvraj playing just gorgeously today ??

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 04:32

  • prem, and a decent bat too...chawla...am sure he would get a look in pretty soon. Maybe if we lead 3-0 with SA then. ;-)

    By Blogger worma, at 04:35

  • confused,
i agree vs is averaging 31 in this series - not good but not pathetic either - his 48 at pune and 39 in jaipur wer crucial, 38 in mohali was a fair effort

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 04:36

  • achin: what a life. Enjoy..

    By Blogger Karrileaf, at 04:37

  • coolguy, I think Oram and mcgrath are taller than harmison.

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 04:38

  • TC...SG is another player as far as i am concerned....I don't need to cry for anybody's sake..But..to stand up and state what I percieve is unjust is a prerogative no one can snatch away..Anyways..pls do send me those hankies :)

    By Blogger RR, at 04:39

  • achin...you managed to evoke a response LOL :-)....probably because your comment made sense, for a change?

..as to the answer to your q...well because atleast I come here to talk cricket...however right/wrong/illogical/inflammatory etc one's statement maybe. So you talk cricket...and you get response. For other stuff...there plenty of other channels on the net, why waste your breath here? You'll probably get good response in those places...no?

    By Blogger worma, at 04:39

  • ppl
i agree with those who say we shud wait with chawla - he is too young too immature, too raw and importantly is unaduleterated by the defensive spinners mindset of odi cricket - i think test cricket is the way to blood him in and that too after a couple of years

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 04:41

  • prem...hmm..chawla coming in early against SA..not a bad idea, although its a bit of a risk, and I'm not sure if the team management is brave enough (yet) to make such a move. I would like it, though. But I feel it would happen later on in the series, if we win atleast few first up. He may be part of the whole group from the beginning...that would be good for him too

    By Blogger worma, at 04:42

  • k-slice, laxmi ratan shukla's bowling just wasn't penetrative enough, right? not much to do with getting picked early.

agree that young players should generally be picked on performance, not potential

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 04:43

  • going pretty slow now ??

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 04:44

  • prem...from what I've heard of chawla...he's pretty confident kind of bloke...not at all intimidated by the occasion...bowling to a Tendulkar...I think they would assess him close to the group..and then if found ready, give him a go

    By Blogger worma, at 04:45

  • yeah...that would have been very good...to try him against SL in this last match. Wonder if they can still do that ?..with him not being in the 15..there'll be public outcry no? ;-)

achin: Haven't seen much of Shikhar Dhawan...only a bit in the Challenger...so can't say much...but his reputation seems to be of a hard hitter like Yuv?

    By Blogger worma, at 04:47

  • especially spin bowlers, not enough to have a good stock ball and googly, you need to have subtle variations in your bowling. not a good idea to pick Chawla now, IMO. he might come good, but how would we know?

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 04:48

  • After some thought, I have come to the conclusion that barring a few notables most people on this blog are indulging in a discussion whose basic aim is best characterized by "Mine is bigger than yours".

    What's the average age here?
    Anyone else feel like that?

    By Blogger i, at 04:49

  • yuvi opnes out again ... very happy for the bloke ... good inns

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 04:49

  • yes if the selectors do it...the way you said, then its possible. I thought if the team management made that decision overnight...that since he's already here, so lets give him a game...then that can...you know...lead to more bonfires ;-)

achin..is it always domestic experince which counts?

    By Blogger worma, at 04:51

  • prem...nope..nothing on Robin Sharma...heard of him for the first time through you, few days back

    By Blogger worma, at 04:54

  • yuvi on a rampage !! nice one

    By Blogger Gaurav, at 04:54

  • achin: not saying that domestic experince counts for zilch..what I meant was that is that *all* that matters? Don't we have enough hopeless cases doing well in domestic circuit, and just not making the cut at international level (its the same in Eng...Aus is different because their domestic standards are way better. If we had that, then I would agree with you). So here, we have a mix of domestic performers, intuitioned-picks, word of 'neutral' experts...local coaches etc...all of it working together to produce a system. Some countries are even worse...Pak, for example, is probably majority of intuition based selections.

prem: yeah no bonfires now....its all about results man... no matter how much GC pleaded with people to have patience (in SL and Zim) for the efforts to bear fruits...in the end results can do the trick

  • siddhu: Nadeem yes...Shanbaz Nadeem from Bihar(I think)..plays for east zone also...took a few wkts recently against Zim XI in the last match. He was also highly spoken of, almost in same breath as Chawla.....in Challengers he didn't get enough chance (mostly due to dew..or other factors)...even Chawla got just half a chance in Challenger...just managed to produce a beautiful spell to tie down the master...so we talk more of him :-)

  • confused
im sure no one will agree with me here but we must always be considerate with yuvi thru his lean trots becoz he is a genuine match-winner who can bat at 5,6,7 ... very tuf posn ... so we shudnt judge him by his averages alone !!

  • achin, right...mostly those who dont do well in domestic should not be given a chance. But if SS plays for Kerala...that should not be held against him, right...that he wont get good enough chances against quality?

From what I read..he did well in U19...and even in his first domestic season. And then in challenger. I posted his profile (done at cricinfo by Sid I think) which looked pretty good.

Do note one more thing...most of these 'untested' players are usually given a quick chance in ODIs only....I still think our test caps are given to proven performers most of the time (unless there is a Parthiv like emergenc)...these can be proven performers in ODIs or domestic...but not greenhorns

  • confused: yeah ofcouse even Aus system would keep producing those failures....but more or less, their entire national lineup has a good domestic record. Not in the same order probably..so that means that someone like Lehman, their heaviest domestic scorer, couldn't find a spot for so long...

    By Blogger worma, at 05:09

  • shri ohh not talking about old days...then I think there was no shred of method in the madness :-)....was talking more of recent times...since Wright-Saurav combo days

    By Blogger worma, at 05:13

  • confused: actually Lehman could have been big for them...just didn't have a place for him in his prime...got one during his last couple of years...and still mananed to some of the more established ones a run for their money!

    By Blogger worma, at 05:15

  • fineleg, yuvraj got out to good catches in earlier matches. but the 3 in 21 balls was rubbish.

  • shri...there's been quite a bit of discussion here on selections earlier on..almost on similar lines :-) My impression...selection in *all* countries would always attrack criticism....as long as you dont find a blatantly un-worthy candidate coming up (a kind of 'who's he?' candidate) then its ok. And in this period we've not had Razdan's and Noel Davids and that pace bowler against Aus in 2001..whatis name..siddiqui....I think this stopped pretty much there onwards.

confused: not in test matches...Lehman did not get a spot in his prime.

achin: will try to find that profile for you....but its not always about numbers, is it? Can't just look at stats...not in Indian domestic circuit...can you.

  • good win guys ... ciao later

  • achin: here's the Santh article that I was talking about http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/india/content/story/221991.html

and here's a quote from it..sounds impressive to me (do read the whole article, though)

Until now Sreesanth was hardly anything more than an answer to a trivia question - who is the only Kerala bowler to have taken a Ranji Trophy hat-trick ? His rise, though, has been rapid, and since he plays for a weak side, unnoticed. Not too many bowlers get selected for the Duleep Trophy in their first season, like Sreesanth did in 2002-03 after snapping up 22 wickets in his first seven games. Playing for Plate B, he cranked up some surging pace and troubled experienced domestic stars like Wasim Jaffer and Hrishikesh Kanitkar.

  • ok guys...me out too...see you later...probably much later...wont be posting on the blog till after the weekend

  • Santanu....I'm stumped...If GC thinks this is confidence building measure...he needs to go back to the basics of teaching. He is adopting the Aussie approach of mental disintegration at a different level.
Take it from me....if...and that is a big if(till GC is at the helm of affairs)...SG makes a come back, GC will take the credit by shoving in the statement that he drove SG to fitness and form and attribute that to his De Bono or whatever. We are stuck with a mad cap

  • oldmanb, MBE may not make sense to you and me. I detest the title as much as you do. But GC is from Australia, who last year voted in a referendum to keep the british queen as their head of state. It doesnt hurt GC's self-respect to flaunt that title. We cannot judge him by our values. To him, it has as much value as a Padma Bhushan would have for you and me.

Secondly, there are liberal australians, much as it is hard to believe - to generalise Australians in the terms you have mentioned (as Rapists and looters) is as stupid as generalising Indians as commual, ancient and orthodox

    By Blogger raj, at 00:10

  • omb, if GC values his title, why we should fret over him flaunting it?
I mean, that is not a disqualification for him to be a coach, right?
I guess the only thing I would have wished is that the BCCI made a contract with him that directly links benefits to performance in WC 2007 - and that too, the only acceptable option should be the Cup itself. After that, he should be given a free hand - I do believe that he has it in him to mould, motivate and guide a team to any pinncale he wants. Right now, the only snag is that irrespective of actual performance in WC 2007, I think he gets his benefits. Again, he is too proud a professional to not give his best.

Bottomline, is no matter who he favours, whom he is biased against, I want the WC 2007 from him. If he gets that, all will be forgiven. If not, the other extreme holds because if after getting your way completely all alobng, you cannot deliver, sorry you have failed.

  • agree on bedi - a stooge of the empire. Well, that could be congenital - if you read Gautam Ghose's Glass Palace, you will know about certain families in Punjab, which have a long history of association with British and East India Company Army - from way back in 1800's. This lineage grew up euolgoising the raj and that attitude still prevails with Bedi. One cant take that chap too seriously.

SMG, well, he is a chameleon. He will suck up to the powerful men.
